What's the proper / best resolution for a 17 inch CRT Monitor ?

1024x768 should be the minimum for the dektop and is a good resolution for gaming (IMO, though there are those who game in really high res.), i use 1280x1024 for my desktop though as i like the extra room and clarity

...and how good are you eyes? Some people like big text so they run 800x600. Good luck!

I've just upgraded from a 15 inch monitor to a 17 inch and changed the resolution from 800x600 to 1024x768. It just looks strange, I guees it will take time for me to adjust.

You can adjust the different components of the Desktop to suit you in Display Properties > Appearance. There, you can tweak icon size, spacing, 3D objects (taskbar) and title bars.

I know - when I first went from 640x480 to 800x600, I was freaking out. The cards were too far apart in Solitaire!
