emule causes random software-resets?
Since a few days I have random software resets, that only have one thing in common: always, when I had a software-reset, emule was running, but emule runs nearly all the tame in the last few days, because I download a very large file (1.25GB). I have my system overclocked, but it is prime-stable, at least, when emule isnt running.
I also tried to update emule, but this also didnt help.
Do you think, that emule really is the reason for my software-resets or does something else cause this? What can I do against the resets?
I have Win98SE.

Please. Do you want us to guess? Maybe we should download emule (with all of it's spyware) and overclock our PCs to test for you?
You tell us. Disable e-mule and/or downclock.

I already tried to downclock, but I still had a software reset.

So uninstall Emule.
What happens during this "reset". Please describe it. If the PC restarts, Go to Control Panel > System > Advanced > Startup and Recovery.
Untick "Automatically restart" and set memory dump to None.
Hopefully, you'll get a blue-screen error with a message next time.

I dont have a Advanced-Tab under Control Panel > System, because I have Win98.
I wont unistall emule, because it is the only source I found for my file. But maybe I will reinstall it.

Just un-install emule and see if that is causing the problem. You can always re-install it. Sounds like you need to backup your stuff and do a clean install of Windows 98. Good luck!

I posted here to avoid this. Pleas no more suggestions like this.

Sometimes you can't avoid that. Maybe it'll just fix itself. Good luck with that.

I wouldn't run emule in Win98. All the Win9X OS's have a memory/resource leak and emule is a resource hog. The two combine for nothing more than headaches. You might as well install AOL 9.0 and finish it off.
yo trick, why you so **** doofus?

I dont have any other OS installed and I wont install it because Win98 is still the best system for games and I dont want to spend over 100$ for a new M$-OS and I dont have a second partition.

Yeah, no kidding. If you blantaly disregard the advice that you have been given then why ask a question? All of the advice you have been given is sound and reasonable given the (lack of) information you have provided.

I understand what you're saying. The problem is, emule uses and releases a lot of resources and RAM. Win9x doesn't seem to have too big of a problem releasing the RAM, but it definitely doesn't like releasing resources. That's why you eventually get low on resource errors. Only way to fix that is to reboot. Win2K and XP on the other hand can run for years and never need a reboot. Win9x's resource subsystem just isn't up to running such resource hungry programs. There's really no way around it short of using a different program or OS. Try Edonkey2000. You'll be on the same network, but the software might work better.

If I get resets doesnt depend on how much free resources I have. I use rsrcmtr to monitor my resources.
