    Athlon 2600+ (333)

i'm building this new system to replace my ****ty p3 500e @ 830.
    FIC AN19C(w/ onboard dolby 5.1) w/ athlon 2600+ (333)
Ati Radeon 9600 Pro 256(8x AGP).
    256MB 3700 466MHz DDR ram w/ heatsink.
    80GB 7200 8MB maxtor ATA133
aluminum case(6 case fans w/ filters and 400W p/s(more power?)
    48x24x48x16 dvd/cdr combo drive.

now down to the nitty gritty. what is a good cooler to use with this cpu when overclocking
i've been looking at water cooling?
how hot can it get and still be safe
    max voltage?

i do plan on upgrading this machine in the future but it'll be things like more ram and such.

see i've been o/cing my p3. it does 166% of rated speed at stock voltage and runs room temperature and MAYBE 10 degreesF above under load. so i'm not familiar with what's a hot cpu or not

it's been a long time since i've been here so i hope to catch up with the computer world again.

i know this system isn't totally badass but that's okay the system with a 19" refurb monitor is only costing me 600 bucks.

my origional plan was to get a dual athlon mp 2800 system but after the cpus and mainboard i was already at 600 lol!

EDIT:are these Barton or T-bred cores? what's better?

theres a Barton 2600 and a Tbred 2600 what do you have? Also 256mb of ram isn't really enough.

    Barton runs at 1.9ghz

Tbred runs at around 2.13ghz or somthin

    Bartons are better.

If you need a cheap motherboard I would go witha Shuttle AN35N ultra. I have it and its great. Its also dual channel.

    I'm at 11X213 or 2.34ghz on it. With a Xp2600 Barton

I know i need more ram. the speed of the ram. is it the faster the better or the faster up to the fsb speed the better then it's just stupid to go faster? with this system what would be a good speed since i'm overclocking? i beleive this processor is the barton.

i'll put 2x256 megs in it. maybe 3x.

any heplful information on making this system run qwik is welcome. what is the best motherboard you can recommend me that isn't an arm and a leg(this is a buget system after all)

The best Motherboard for overclocking is the Abit NF7-s V2.0. Or a Epox 8rda+ if you can find one.

Oh Pc3700 is plenty fast enough. You should get good results with PC3700. What type of ram is it?

    type?

all i know is DDR non-ecc non-parity unbuffered ram.

    KT400 chipset anygood?

i can't get those two mother boards indicated. i'd love the abit but i can't get it because it puts me out of my 600 dollar buget and almost doubles what i'm currently going to pay for the cpu mb combo(120$USD)

that would be killer tho with the XP3000(400) unfortunately it's triple my costs lol!

How much you getting the 9600 pro for. I heard that the 9800 SE's are better than the 9600's and its $167 at newegg.

i'm glad i came here...i was going to just put together a cheapie machine and just try to use my old knowledge. now i know i want a board with the Nforce 2 chipset even though it's going to cost a lil more then i thought it'll be a better machine.

I built my system with the tbred 2600+/333 fsb and Im very happy with it. That was before i knew about the barton 2500, which is a little cheaper. If i did it over again id probably go with the 2500+, but my 2600 performs very well and with an NF7-S v2.0 I can get it as high as about 2350 mhz on air cooling. Id recommend the NF7-S 2.0 though for sure.

I thought I read somewhere that that epox board required some sort of voltage mod (or something) to be able to give enough juice to the memory (or some component). Is this thing ready to go for maximum overclocking?

Would you say that the abit board is better than the epox? I like so many others are planning on the xp2500 overclock upgrade.
