    Apple iMac question

Without being publicly stoned, I have a iMac question.
I was given ( yes free) two iMac G3. They are the cute little one piece computer that came in 5 different colors. The problem I am having is finding enough info, or forum boards that cover Mac computers. Every forum board I visit hasnt had a post for over a year! I just want to get these back to normal, in working condition and get rid of these!

On both of these computers is the OS 9 operating system. I want to format and re-install the operating system. You think google, or Apple.com would have that info but I cant find out how to do this properly. My question is this, anybody out there know enough about a mac to help me out, or know of a website that might have enough info I can read and learn about these overgrown bowling balls?!
    thanks for any help,
    Red

    AHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
You just made me laugh my guts out for the first time today! Thanx!

Here's how to perform a clean install:

On sites with Mac help/tutorials, here are some:
    http://www.macinstruct.com/
    http://www.mccsc.edu/~rschmelz/education/edumain.html
    http://www.tutorialfind.com/tutorial...ems/macintosh/

    OS9 help:

I'll point you to a good Mac forum if a moderator says I can do that here but you'll have to promise you'll keep posting here, Mac questions especially; if we're not a good Mac forum yet, you can help us become one ("us" includes you). And if you don't keep your promise you will be publicly stoned

Hey Bassman, thanks for the help. I should use that word "tutoral" in some of my google searches.

Maybe in the near future there might be a spot in this forum for iMac. I dont think anyone would be threatened by it, and if the Mac is heading in the direction of replaceable, inexpensive parts, it might gain some popularity? I cant see myself jumping the fence to pick an apple over an IBM base unit, but why keep your education to one side of the fence?
Again bassman, thanks for the help.

There is a spot, only it's still too small

You might also try joining this mailing list (listserv):

If you have a specific question about something, people are usually very helpful.

You guys should do yourselves a favor and take a look at Mac OS X. Seriously.

RedFanta, here's the procedure, from memory, for wiping the drive and reinstalling OS 9:
    1. Insert a Mac OS 9 CD.
2a. Choose Apple Menu > Control Panels > Startup Disk and select "Mac OS 9" or whatever the disk is named. Restart. Or...
2b. Insert the Mac OS 9 CD, restart, and hold down the C key.
    3. When the computer is successfully running off the Mac OS 9 CD, the desktop should display a patterned background displaying an image of a CD.
    4. To wipe the hard drive, double-click the Mac OS 9 CD on the desktop (it will be the upper-right most icon). Open the application "Drive Setup" in the Utilities folder.
    5. Re-initialize the volume in HFS+ format.
    6. When finished, double click on whatever the Mac OS 9 installer is called on the root level of the CD.
    7. Run through the installer. Clean Install doesn't matter, since there is no System Folder to start with (Clean Install means saving the old System Folder) You probably should choose Easy Install.
    8. The thing should install in about 15 minutes. Restart, and enjoy.

Mac OS 9 is old. Don't make judgements about Apple based on OS 9. Mac OS X is a completely new and different OS, and is much much better!

I forgot to mention two sites I frequent:
    http://www.macosx.com/
    http://www.macaddict.com/

Both sites are packed with active Mac users.
