Heh. No way. That would be a top-line laptop. You should settle for a 1GHz P3 or similar if you want to get one cheap.

Hey I've seen a lappy with a 2500+ Barton in it
I don't know if it was actually real or now. It was from HP I believe.

I don't think it's currently possible to BUILD your own laptop. The Mobo's and cases, psu's, etc, are proprietary to the particular manufacturer and even sometimes to the models they offer. I've never seen a case or even most other parts offered for sale to build your own. You can change the HDD in most cases and sometimes even add a CD or DVD drive but other than that, no.
Soooo, I'd be following the above advice on finding one on e-bay or something like that

I read a review in PC Gamer or Maximun PC, they are both owned by the same company, about a Voodoo laptop that had an interchangable CPU and Video card. I know Voodoo's are expensive, but soon other manufacturers should follow Voodoo's way of not soldering the CPU's into the mobo itself and being able to replace your onboard video card.
PS
If you want a AMD 2100+ processor in your computer check out any of the major manufacturers, but if they don't have any that you like go to Alienware. I know Alienware uses the true processors not the mobile type, so you will have horrible battery life but it is designed for LAN parties mostly and powerful computing not to be used for long times not plugged in.

I once killed a computer by shooting the processor. This was when you could police your own computer.

man, you can build whatever you want nowadays.
you can build your own car! get yourself a ferrari body kit $10,000
550hp v8 engine, etc, and yea, a car
same thing for a desktop. proc, then out. inside out
then now laptops. they plugged in desktop proc just for that reason. upgrading.
i've seen some small companies that allow you to customize enough options to call it "making your own."
look around pcmag or pcworld;s back parts for small companies.
dont get hp laptops please. dont make me cry. toshibas are doign well right now. i really am not a fan of laptops as of now. if corporations finally decided to make cases and mobos for independent building...i'd think differently.

Toshiba's and Fujitsu's get my vote.
I have a fujitsu that's from the win95 era that is just screaming for me to take it out to the backyard and put it out of it's misery, but it still kicks
