AGP to PCI converter.......
I need an AGP to PCI converter. I know they exist, here's a website showing a picture: http://www.kuroutoshikou.com/pickup/agp2pci.html
I haven't seen one in any US stores. Maybe you have.
Thanxs

An AGP card running at PCI bus speeds will be a shadow of it's former self.
I haven't seen one since they first debuted about two years ago but I will try to find something on it . I remember posting something about it back then.

The trail is cold I'm afraid. I believe the picture and discussion were at Via Hardware which is now something else. I do remember that they sold for between $50 and $70 which explains why they are hard to find today.

Hmm... I imagine this would require running at 66MHz PCI, unless there exists some buffering logic to allow asynchronous operation.. and of course all AGP commands would have to be disabled.
Wonder what AGP cards it's compatible with.. the card looks like it has some voltage-converting regulators so it might work fine at up to 4x (1.5v) signaling... and there also has to be a step-down mechanism to convert the 5v PCI into 3.3v AGP current on boards with older PCI standards...
correct me if I'm "all mixed up" here Peter...

They were using some with a Radeon 8500.......gotta find that link.

The kit would be very much more useful running the other way around.
Using PCI on AGP.

This thing may not be of much use to some of you...
first of all, its an AGP to PCI converter, can we say blah?
Second up, it's only compatible with 1U Low-Profile PCI adapters (Rage 128 4MB/8MB/16MB, Rage Pro 16MB/32MB, there is no 1U Radeon.)
You won't find many 1U Profile AGP cards anymore (cheap as they are), Server Mainboard OEM's started integrating them a long time ago, purchasing a PCI based GeForce or Radeon would run many times faster than any 1U card that would work with that adapter, since most of the speculative throughput differences between AGP and PCI is a moot point. AGP is just a souped up PCI slot, it still has to throttle itself down to connect with the PCI bus to do any sort of data carriage (hence why PCI-X will be so important, improved overall bandwidth)

Hello Bob,
In late 2002 I was looking at that same converter to use an AGP card in this 1U server. Ended up with a Radeon 7000 PCI card for two reasons.
The PCI video card was about the same price as the converter and I read something about the pathwidth (I think) was more limited with the converter.
BTW: Did you hear that "MC" was picked by Denver?

1.) You had to use AGP2x compatable cards (for 3.3v signals) as I recall
2.) The card you chose had to be half-height, and mounted in a full-height slot
3.) The adapter was expensive, you'd might as well get a PCI card to begin with.
