3com, d-link, netgear ROUTERS...
Hello everyone. I'm from sweden and my spelling skills is faaar away from good.m I hope everyone will understand me.
I will soon get ADSL and therefor I need a good router to share my bandwidh with, and it will also have a built in Firewall and a Switch. Find 3 products that intrests me.
- 3COM OFFICECONNECT CABLE/DSL SECURE GATEWAY (little more expensive)
- 3COM OFFICECONNECT 3C857 CABLE/DSL GATEWAY (cheep)
- Dlink 604 (cheep to) Have heard that this router have a lot of problem in the firmware. It will take a huge time to reset efter a flood attack and must be rebooted when you change anything in the configuration!
Want more recomendations!
It should be easy to configure, secure firewall! Not to expensive, router, switch, dont generate evil sounds!
Have a nice day everyone!!

Linksys BEFSX41. For a hardwire setup it's what I like and use.

I agree.
SMC makes fine routers - as does Cisco. I wouldn't hesitate to buy a 3Com, but they are more expensive.

So get the 3Com. 3Com makes some of the best networking gear in the world.

If it's among the best in the world, it's definitely good. Most people around here recommend the Linksys router, but if you can find a good deal on something else good then take it. I have a D-Link and it's pretty good.

Yeah 3com used to be a big player until they ditched their high end wan stuff but they still make good gear.
Cisco if you can afford it.
Linksys seems to be the favourite for its ease of use round here and its owned by Cisco so hopefully it will get even better for support and build quality.

Cant really find much on 3coN , theyve gone out of site in uk when they dropped their wan support albeit with 5 years of contnued support for the 'builder' range and searches for reviews doesnt yield much which kinda supports customers attitude to 3com , maybe im wrong but thats how the engineers ive met have put it ,, general conscensus kinda thing.....dont believe the adverts...just ask an engineer in the field be they techies or at the bottom (management) and you'll get a real answer!!!
Reasonable rates too!!!
eek:
Personally for ease of configuration id go linksys.

Instant messengers and similar programs should not be a problem with the Linksys router, or any small home router for that matter. At most you might have to enter some configuration settings in the router, or the program, or even both, but I truly doubt you'll have much of a problem that you'd have to do any of this.
