CMI-8738/C3dx-pci audio device problem
Hi :It's a CMI8738/C3DX Pci Audio Device. I had put the new card in a slot the machine didn't found it and it showed up as a yellow exclamation mark (unknown device) in device manager.
I was Wondering If the Yellow Exclamation mark Related To a Problem with the Sound Card driver
any idea
many thanks in advance

What does it tell you in device manager when you double click on the yellow exclamation mark? Did you install the drivers that came with the card?

HIhanks a lot for your quick response
it show there is a problem with this device
that,s all
I was wondering If installing the latest drivers For this Card should fix the problem
Or delete the yellow Exclamation mark(Shut down the system ,Open the case) than Switch the Sound card to another PCI Slot
than Install The latest driver
Or Install The motherboard driver may fix this problem
Cos Sometimes After Format The HDD The mobo drivers should be Reinstall it
warm,regards

The mobo drivers don't install any pci devices that I know of. The drivers for such are in the windows data base and if they are not there then they can't be installed and you usually get an unkown device because windows doesn't reconize it.
Did you install the card IAW the instructions that came with it and use the installation disk that came with it? You should do this then upgrade the driver if need be.
As far as the reformat goes you have to install the mobo drivers after you reformat always.

That CMedia chip is also used as onboard sound on many mainboards.
Does your mainboard have onboard sound and you are adding a add-on sound card?...
-
O.K. Just saw your update.
Check the resources for this device to see if it conflicts with another device.
Things to try -
Latest drivers.
Move the card to another slot.
Remove Com2 and disable it in the bios. This will free up some resources...

You should keep everything pertaining to the same system in the same post it makes it a lot easier to keep up with and you will get a lot better response.
I just posted a link to the mobo manufacturer's site for that mobo in your other post so you can find out what you need to know about that mobo along with all the available upgrades.

PCI devices don't "conflict" ever.
Windows 98 should have told you what the problem is. No driver installed?
