In search of an inexpensive monitor

The border around my current monitor is growing increasingly thick. I imagine the time will come when the viewable part of the screen will be a tiny box in the center. The monitor is 13 years old and stays on 24/7; alas, I think I've gotten my money's worth.

The above said, I require another monitor which will last for 13 years... something with a nice sharp picture and CRT is just fine. With everyone wanting flat-panel type monitors the prices on the CRT type monitors has been coming down ( which is a good thing for me)

Anyone know where I can find a good inexpensive CRT type monitor 17 ro 19 inches?

    Thanks!

    Hi DC,

Just to confirm reliability etc. I have a G74 which I bought used about two years ago...It's still sharp, clear and stable. It has been on (powered up) for nearly 100% of that time.

I have six IBM G-series monitors at work with zero problems for almost five years.

If you're near Columbus Ohio, Raven Technologies usually has a few for sale. They are one of those companies that buy out computer equipment from office upgrades, gone.com companies, etc.

Logan2002, they were running their deals on the 17" KDS monitors about 1-2 months ago. I got one for $108 then they dropped the price to $80. (USD)

If you're patient, bookmark those sites, maybe they'll drop the price on the 19" again. It all depends on how fast they go out the door.

The 17" is a good monitor so far. No complaints.

what about 15 inch flat screens? Is there much of a differance between a 15 and 17 in price or quality?
