Cd-rom not working after format... mscdex?

I just formatted an IBM Thinkpad and it is still swipped clean, nothing on the hdd, booting from a boot floopy.

It's been so long, and I can't remember what I need to do to get it to recognize the CD drive agian. I have tried booting with a 98 or XP cd and no luck... I still get invalid drive specification.

I am messing with MSCDEX right now but can't excatly remember what lines I need to add to config.sys or autoexec... etc.

    Can anybody help me?

    Thanks, Dave

Which OS are you or want to install?

If its 98 get or make a bootdisk from another machine to format the drive plus when prompted select load with cdrom drivers. You can make one in add/remove programs or get one from bootdisk.com
