They're free, so why not try them.
Personally I have just removed RedHat 9 from my system and I have tried Mandrake also. If you like Unix commands you will probably like Linux. I always find myself going back to Win XP pro, which I like better than any Linux distro I've tried so far. I'm definately not fond of any Win 98 version.
Try Mandrake out, you might like it.

No Linux is nothing but worthless garbage. It doesn't run top quality do something software. It's software capibilities is simular to that of the late 80's. It is nowhere near as stable as Windows 2000 or XP. In fact there is a listing of top 50 server uptimes and Windows 2000 has 2 spots at over 900 days. Linux is not on the list at all. Linux is not easy to use. Try installing software I mean crapware. It take a day and a half to install it and when you explore it you see that Windows has 500 simular programs that are far better.
Run don't walk away from the worthless disgrace that is Linux.
Oh Linux wants to take away your freedom.

It is free, why not try it. I use red hat 9 with some success. I have it networked, internet & email weren't too hard to configure, even for an old dog like me.

    I like SuSE.

    Linux is bad for gaming.

It's great for servers. Ignoring ngc457 it's actually pretty good for a desktop if you're just interested in general computing.

The average distro comes with more and better applications than Windows. If I didn't game I'd be using it full time.

Why ignore me? Becuase I state the facts while everyone lies. Anyone who says Linux is good is telling bald face lies.

If you want to try a version of Debian Linux that runs from a compressed Cd so that it never interfers with Windows try Knoppix from http://www.knoppix.com/.

It is getting rave reviews and comes with plenty of software such as the OpenOffice office suite.

I gave mandrake 8.2 a try awhile back and didn't like it because I couldn't find any modem or sound drivers. Other than that I have no real complaints about it.
