    PC hangs.

    Hey there!

I`m trying to ocerclock just a little my Barton 2500+.
I tried to put it a t 11*176. 6-3-3-2 mem timings. I ran 3DMark and everything went fine. Then i tried to play Tiger Woods PGA Tour and after playing for 10-15 minutes it hangs.

Didn`t touch Vcore and Vdimm since I`m really new to overclocking and don`t really know what to do.

My temps are fine 35 for core.

    What can it be?

    Thanks

RAM probably. What brand are you using?

Your ram timings are okay. Try bumping your vdimm up +0.20v and see if you get better ram stability. I run both Corsair and Geil ram on a couple PCs at +0.30v. Also, bump the vcore by +0.10v (your temps are fine).

    --------------------

    Nothing! Still freezes up.

I`m at 1.725 of VCore now and DDR Voltage is 2.7 (which is the max, don`t have anything above that. [default was 2.6]).

Temps are still there but it hangs.

    I`m lost.

What happens if I decrease the Multiplier to 10.5 or 10 and increase the FSB? Can I do that or do I have to unlock the CPU?
The Bios show Multiplier setting up to 25 or above!

    HELP!!

What is your motherboard? Are you running cpu-to-ram at 1-to-1 or 4-to-5 ratio (the 133 CPU bus speed vs 166 RAM bus speed of the KT333 motherboard generation, or 166-to-166 bus speeds)?

I'm not familiar with your brand of ram, but I regularly run both Corsair XMS 3200DDR and Geil 3200DDR at speeds up to 185mHz... and have experimented up to 200mHz fsb.

Given your ram may be the issue, confirm that the ram and cpu bus speeds are running at a 1-to-1 ratio (synchronous, not asynchronous). If you lower your multiplier and raise the bus speed, you will just exacerbate the problem.

Try going in the other direction to determine whether CPU or ram is what is limiting you.

For example: if you have run at 11x176=1936mHz, try instead 11.5x168mHz. This will keep the cpu speed the same, but make it easier on your ram. Now run your torture tests and see if you have any problems.

If no problems, then raise cpu multiplier to 12, giving you 12x168=2016mHz, re-run torture tests. Keep going up until you determine what the upper limit is for the CPU.

Now, you can work back to that speed by reducing multiplier and raising fsb until the ram bombs out. I suspect with that DDR3000 ram, you may need +0.30 vcore to push the bus speed.

If the ram won't do what you desire, then you may just need to get better, faster-rated ram (I like Corsair and Geil, others have their opnions).

THANKS so muhc for helping me!!!

Alirhgt: I have an ABIT NF7-S. I`m running the RAM-CPU ratio 1:1 (selected By SPD) in the BIOS, and is showing up as 333Mhz when is posting.

I`ll try to do what you`re saying.

I bought this RAM becasue it was of the higher rated for overclocking.
Running it as 5-2-2-2 right now.

Is there any possibilites that overclocking will CORRUPT my Hdd?
I bought it 1 month ago and I don`t want to buy another one!

THANKS A LOT...I`ll post again with answers.

Shouldnt there be an option in the BIOS to lock the AGP/PCI bus to standard levels, that should prevent HDD corruption
