Compaq evo N1020v and redhat linux 8.0

Do these guys have a problem with each other? I can't seem to be able to start setting up Redhat linux 8.0 on a compaq evo. As soon as setup starts initializing, the pc hangs on:

    Check partitions
    hda:

Redhat 7.1 did not seem to have that problem, but it's not too friendly with NTFS which I'm currently using.

Is there a way to go around this? if not, is there a Linux release such as Mandrake that would work on my compaq?

    Thanx a lot

My experience is with Mandrake. In order to install Mandrake 8.0, I had to kill the current partitions. Use zap or killpart and then let Linux partition and format the hard disk.
