I'm guessing the 5200 and 5600 are redone Gforce4's comparable to the ti4200 and 4600 but DX9 compatible.

$100 for 5200? Something don't sound right. (Even if 5200 are a DX9.0 verison of GF4200) Why would they sell it cheaper than most GF4200 series?

I think nVidia are losing the race, they need to get the FX name out there, and nobodies gonna pay big bucks for a chip that sucks as much as it blows.

They're a completely new architecture, based on the FX core.
HardOCP should have benchmarks up by Monday, so you know where I'm going to be pointing my browser.
They look good, and it will be interesting to compare them to ATI's new 9600 series as they seem to have a very similar design. At least as similar as you can get from NV30 vs RV350.

anyone know how fast the fx 5200 going to be compared to a ti4200 and a radeon 9500 pro?
i am looking for a new video card.

I don't know, but I expect the FX5200 to be slower than both.
I would expect it to come out near the Gf3/Radeon 8500 in performance.

Ahh Pentium4Guy.
You're right if you are describing the GfFX 5800 Ultra. It's a little faster than the Radeon 9700.
However, I was referring to the GfFX 5200 built on the NV34 core and the slowest variant of the GfFX. I expect that card to have similar performance to the Gf3 or Radeon 8500. I doubt it will match the Ti4200 in raw performance.

unfortunately Radeon 9700 smokes GF 5800 at full eye candy. And preformance+cost+noise+heat goes to ATI. Much better overall for ATI than Nvidia.

Yep,
and considering it's on the shelves and takes up only one PCI slot is an added plus.
For its horsepower, I consider the 9700 very, very inexpensive.

From the HardOCP review of the FX cards:
"...we have seen first hand that the current GeForceFX product line simply cannot compete with ATI products released last year"
... ouch.

Exactly
And I've seen similar results elswhere though I think the [H] had the best review.
I am very glad I got a 9500 Pro last month.

I was hoping the FX's would leapfrog the 9700 like the 9700 leapfrogged the 4600. Instead it looks like Nvidia is reduced to playing games with image quality just to get decent frame rates.
Next gen they ain't.
