Is my Sony 200es 17" monitor outdated?
Since I'm updating my computer, I thought I might upgrade my monitor at the same time. But is there much out there that would be an improvement over this 200es? I'd probably go from this 17" to a 19".

Agreed - if the Sony is healthy, it's hard to beat. Stay with it unless you need more "acreage".

If your monitor is not black and white, and still works, it isn't outdated. However, it is possible to find high quality used monitors for cheap. example:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...&category=3696
I have 2 20 inch hitachis that cost a total of $175, one delivered and one will call, and work fine. There is of course a risk of failure, and shipping is a bear, (the $50 shipping on this one at ebay is cheap), but if you get a good deal it's cheap real estate.
I don't find any difference between the Hitachi and Sony btw, I have a Sony 19" and 17" too, as well as a 17" flat screen ibm crt
that is quite nice as well.

Better question is are you still happy with it? Just take a walk to Bestbuy and see if its a neccessity.
Also I noticed you get a sharper image on your dusty old monitor if you wipe the dust off the screen

That and the spittle from when you get excited in games.

I guess I just got carried away in the frenzy of getting a new computer...
I think I'll just stick with the Sony...
