Hooya!
It took me a while to find the extra ram that matched my other ...searched several sites and finally found the cheapest I could....
I installed it yesterday..and it does make quite a bit of difference in overall performance...( probably due to no page file usage+)
In games it is awesome...as they play better with absolute no glitches or slowdowns at all....I believe the graphics are somewhat better also... The load times are significantly improved...as this extra ram with the new HD I just put in ...loads programs in just a few seconds..BF 1942 and Vietnam takes just 5-8 seconds..zip !
I am still going to do another 3D mark 03 score test tonight and the scores should go up some more...best is 5810 with the FX5900 card I got..with normal settings ( no AA ort AF added)
512 is enough for most uses and most gaming..as your overall system with the HD and processor speed make up for alot of the differences....
It probably fluctuates according to the Mobo you use also....
I have Aquamark 3 also and will do a test with that also....

load times are the least important thing for me. it doesnt make a big differenc if a game trakes 5 seconds less for loading. i have a fast hdd, but i bought it because the price difference to slower models w/ the same capacity was lonly ~10-15$ and because i heared, taht not only load time improves.

Hooya!
Yeah..I was the most amzed at how the difference improved with the new Hard Drive....it was like night and day..
I opted for the Seagate Barracuda model...7800 rpm w/8MB cache..120 GB.... it is an awesome HD.
I hooked it up and it is running on DMA 5 for this drive and also for my other WD 80 GB Caviar...
Also, i can understand about not caring about load times ..though when you are in a game itself..the playability goes up some..and the games run much better....at least that is my experience.
When I play BF vietnam ,for instance, the game now has no slow downs with any server or the way the game loads in any screen..so that problem was fixed...nice!

is that a serial ATA HDD rabit.
i see 10000 RPM SATA HDD with only 76 Gb, which just isnt enough for me, i use that much. probably full of **** but i like to keep my **** in case i need it. but if you found such a huge difference with a 7800 rpm HDD then maybe the 10000 will be a massive difference. just now im on a 7800rpm.
also are there not other facor which affect HDD performance. i.e. seek time and data transfer rate???

Hooya!
Yes, seek times and data transfer rates effect the overall operation and speed of access and help with running the programs better...
I read alot of posts here about Sata and Ide and also the Raptor series drives and the majority of people use the 7800 drives ..esp.. those with at least a registered 8.9 seek time...which alot of the better ones have now...
The reason I got the Seagate model was I did a benchmark with this utility and it was the tops among the others it compared to including the WD and Hatachi..and the Hatachi is closest for speed and performance..
My old drive OS drive was a seagate also..and it was older( 21/2 year) and dependable..but slow in benchmark scores...probably due to it being incapable of running at DMA 5 ...which is the highest transfer rate available for the IDE drives..that means it can transfer up to 100 MB /sec. which is alot and pretty fast.
The Raptor of course is the best as far as being the fastest..but you sacrifice disk space..and they cost quite alot still .
An average user should just use a good 7800 IDE drive that can use DMA 5 capability and that is good enough...believe me.
Also, this drive is quiet and just a well built product...You can pick one up at NewEgg.com for about $95.00 or so...

im not trying to be an upperclass snob and point out mistakes in people's english because i mean my english is pretty rubbish as well, but i hope you dont mind me pointing out that "a lot" is two words not one, just because you say "alot."
i know i have a distinct lack of capital letters and grammer in most of my post, that mistake just makes me cringe.
sorry no offence meant.

Hooya!
Its quite OK..my brain has always worked faster than my keystrokes...and i find even the simplest sentences I write..being edited ...( example putting too many letters in or having them backwards..)
I got an "A" in engish and know better..you are correct in your spelling....
My mom or mum as you call her, always criticized me for my english and used to constantly remind me that i can speak better then that.....shows a bit of sofistication.. My thinking a lot of the time is "who cares". I talk and write well enogh for most people to understand...but it needs some work.
I am half Irish/Welsh by heredity...

I cannot believe for the life of me that I got such a crazy score like this, what the hell is going on?
6634
with everything as low as it will go I get this score!
intel celeron 2.4ghz@3.05
512mb pc2100 DDR
xtasy ti4600
80gb samsung 5400rpm hard drive
is this a good score? I was looking back at some of the other scores and realized mine wasn't so bad.

Yea, thinking about it that is a GREAT score for that rig. My last run was:
AMD 3200 XP at 12*200 1.65 v w/ Vantec Aeroflow
NF7-S 2.0 Mobo
1 Gig Corsair XMS 3200C2PT Platinum
ATI 9800 Pro w/ Arctic Cooler Silencer stock settings and oc'd to 444 and 756
So my system is ~ to a 3.4 Intel
Memory at 8-3-3-2.5: 5,818 and 6,574
Memory at 6-3-3-2: 5,828 and 6,556
Just ran it on a system in back:
AMD 2400 Stock
FIC Mobo
TI 4200 128 meg
512 no-name PC2100
Got 1400, even.
Are you running the full test? Or is your vid card oc'd like a mother?? Or running 01?
