Problems with an ABIT BE6-II V1.0 mobo

I am having problems with an ABIT BE6-II V1.0 mobo.

It was working fine for a while, but now when I try to start it up, the HD lights come on, the fans come on but the monitor doesn't turn on.

When I remove the RAM, it doesn't beep, it does the same as above.

I have read about the capacitors near the CPU bubbling, but don't know if I am having that problem. I also don't know if the capacitors would cause the problem that I am having.

Any help would be appreciated!!!

PIII-750 Slot I
ABIT BE6-II, V1.0 mobo
512MB PC100 SDRAM(256 MB-Corsair, 128MB-Corsair, 128MB-Generic)
Windows 2000
40GB Western Digital HD @ 7200 rpm
nVidia GeForce4 440 64MBDDR

that sounds like as if the CPU is toasted

do you have another CPU to try?

It would be a first for me to see a toasted Coppermine. They have thermal protection.

I would assume motherboard.

So do you think that the motherboard is dead? Are you familiar with the capacitor issue? Could this be causing the problem?

A high percentage of Abit boards bite the dust due to blown capacitors. Give it a quick visual. Bulging tops, raised/tilting and a brown/black substance at the base are prime indicators. These items can be replaced. You just have to decide if its worth the hassle...

I looked at the capacitors last night and they are bulging and there is some brownish residue next to them. I guess this board is toast. I am not comfortable with soldering on the motherboard. Thanks for your help.

By the way, I put in my old Intel board and everything works great. The problem was definitely the leaking capacitors near the CPU on the ABIT BE6-II, V1.0 motherboard.
