So what do you think about SATA 150

Does anyone have a SATA and if so did you notice performance difference? Is it worth spending the money? I like the fact that it uses small cables.

Ask this question in a year or two. Serial ATA hard drives aren't really on the market yet. So far, I only heard of Seagate coming out with SATA drives. There are SATA adapters to 40pin ide, but you can't really count those.

It's not as fast as it is going to be, yet. It's new technology.

It won't really make a difference on non-RAID hard drives. Now yes, it has more bandwidth, so you get more performance with RAID, but without, it's just a marketing gimmick and smaller cables that can go longer distances w/no master/slave difficulties. It's what can make a 3.5" 7200RPM HDD possibly fit in a laptop. You might have to go to an outlet every 15mins, but,

I'm waiting on SATA600... and then come the 30000RPM 2TB drives to go with it. The ultimate IDE RAID array!

SATA harddrives are already here. Maxtor sells now their DiamondMax Plus 9 SATA150 120GB/160GB drives, together with Promise SATA150 controller, if I remember correctly.
As for efficiency ... RAID configs will do slightly better, as already been said here, almost no speed benefits for single drive user, though ...

Wanna go faster ? Go SCSI
And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who attempt to poison and destroy my brothers

Yeah the only problem with SCSI is the money. I am getting ready to make a $100000 deficet in my pocket beacause Butlers Dual Degree in Engenering Program. Hey but hopefully two B.S. In Computer Science and Computer Engenering will land me some where in a R & D job. Wouldn't that be fun!!!

    P.S.
I think you got the right Promise controller ND. They have like 5 models with SATA 150.
