    Currently:

ECS K7S5A with the October/02 BIOS
    Cheap case, no idea what name, but 4 x 5 1/4" bays and 6 x 3 1/2" bays
    AMD XP 1800+ O/Ced to 1686 MHz (146.7 x 2 FSB)
    Thermaltake Volcano 8 SE HSF
    256 MB DDR-2100 Generic
Pine GeForce 2 Ti 64MB DDR vid card with TV-out, O/Ced to 261/443 from 225/400
    300 Watt Tsunami PS
20 Gig Western Digital HD (ATA-100)
    1 x 20x10x40 CD/RW drive
    1 x 44X CD-ROM drive
1 Sunon 80mm case fan (exhaust)
    1 3 1/2" floppy drive

Also, I have 2 kickass 105mm Compaq SilentCool chassis fans that can be swapped in in about 2 minutes, and share a Molex connector, but they raise the noise 2-fold! I'm noisy as it is! They drop my temps another 6 degrees, but it isn't worth the aggravation, unless I'm at a LAN all day and all night.

Try getting rid of windows ME and get XP, that might solve your problem in your games

Quit the ME bashing! All you have to do is clean it up a bit, and it will be quite usable.

Lots of things that don't like static electricty. I'd rather 2000 before XP unless I have a gig of RAM.

this is all soon to be upgraded...

Extremely small beige case (e-machines) w/120 watt psu
    Duron 800
    AVC hsf
    Epox KL-133M
    Onboard video/audio
    256 mb crucial pc133
    9 gig WD hd
    Samsung CD-Rom
    Generic Floppy
    Diamond HomePNA network adapter
    Conexant 56K modem (don't use)
    Win98SE

I did have a FIC AE31, another Duron 800, and a CoolerMaster hsf in here, but I gave those away. The mobo/hsf/cpu combo I'm using now is basically from the "junk pile" so to speak - but, works for me in the time being

The basics are to turn off active desktop and turn off all your startup programs except for systray using msconfig. Then you can dowload utilities like
X-Setup and cacheman to do more tweaking.

Ok I don't use active desktop, and I have everything shut off in startup but the things I use. I'll look for those programs and see what I can do. Thanks.

Update - I caved in to the cooling gods, and mounted the two 105MM Compaq SilentCools... idle temp in a warm room is now 40-41 degrees Celcius, and full load is 44-46.

**** thing wants clearance to take off all the time... *SLAPS case* No flying for you!

My girlfriend hates it because when she sits in front of the 2 open 5 1/4" bays, some of her hair starts to drift towards the case

If she gets it caught in there, I'll never hear the end of it!
