what are the probabilities..
Im building a computer, what are the probabilities of it not working.
-
That would depend on a whole lot of things, mainly the quality of parts being used, and how experianced you are in building your own... The very first computer i build didn't work because I didn't know what I was doing and grounded out the whole motherboard to the case because I didn't use those brass stand-offs... I've build many since then, and all have worked but one, and its problam was a defective motherboard.

so usually the first one is a little rough? some ppl say that if you know what your doing it would be fine. do they mean "know what you are doing" by you know that this goes there and such?

The chances of your first build not working on the first try are about 110%. Heck - it's still 50% for me. Half the time, I forget to plug them in!

Do a search on google on "how to build a pc" and you'll get alot of sites with pics that should give you better odds of being successful.
After that the only problems would be defective parts or grab an old machine take it apart and put it back together then you'll know how much pressure it takes to install a card properly and how to mount the motherboard.

It won't work. It'll never work. You are doomed, DOOMED I say!
Not that I want to discourage you

DONT WORRY!
when i build my first machine i didnt have a clue sort of and it worked fine. build 3 more comps all worked first time except for usb modem drives crashing my machine took a while to figure out but but the right drivers do magic!
building a computer is easy peasy!
look on the net how to build a computer! my advice is never touch anything but the edges of all components and handle everything carefully. never force stuff into slots and sockets, be gentle (though i had to force my graphics cards into my new mobo cause it was thight ... but worked fine)
buy all components from good manufacturers and check reviews for all products! dont buy rubbish!!!!!!!
post what u will buy here and we will tell u if u got a good system

TOP TIP:
listen to slow relaxing music! that will help the building process! u will see what i mean when u build it!
