    Installing win98 se o/s without cd rom

    is it possible to do so, i bought a lap top, and its in a jap 98 o/s

    the lap top is still running, partitioned and connected to the internet and the local lan

    is there a way to copy windows 98 into the partition, format the other partition and still be able to install windows 98 on the remaning parition?

    remember, no cd rom

    thanks, any help would be appreciated

    Your gonna need the /win98 directory from the install disc any way you do it, you can then copy this to a HDD and run it - but the poitn is your gonna have to use a CDROM drive initially

    Could network it to another comp and run it from that cdrom, if you have another comp ant work with one in it.

    What you going to have to is this

    1. Make a boot floppy from the add remove programs wizard

    2. When the boot floppy is made, you will have to copy a couple of files to it, Delete, ren is a renaming command to rename some dirs

    3. Copy the win98 dir from the cdrom over the network

    4. Boot of the floppy on the laptop, then you will do some commands
    => ren windows windead
    => ren progra~1 prodead
    =>run delete *.* from the root of c:\ drive this will delete the old command.com etc

    5. Type this in cd win98 this is where the cab files should be located when you copyied from the cdrom over the network

    6. then type setup
    this will run the windows setup program
    then you should be fine

    If the drive has two partations on it. Yes you can. Copy the windows cd to the D: drive from your lan.

    Boot from a boot disk. Then format C:

    Reboot. Then find the folder you put the windows cd files into. Then run steup. Installing this way. Do not delete the folder when you are done. Then you will not need the cd agin.
