AMD has let me down this time. They have been very well at putting out good processors for low prices, but from what I'm hearing, I'm better off with the one I have now than this new 64-bit processor. Also, the name does kinda suck. If they want to sell these processors to more people, then they should give it a cool name that way people will at least THINK they do something neat. Who is the person that was behind this operation? I'll choke him!
These Athlon64's are gonna Rock I tell ya!!!! When I saw the specs on the Processor there are Voltage settings for 133, 166, 200 CPU Frequency , also These Babies are going to be SMP Compat as well as 32 bit - 64 bit Combo Processors. The Processors are not going to be High in Price as people are making them out to be, I think the New Clawhammer DP Processors are going to be Roughly 700 - 800 CDN TOPS! for the Fastest One. They have to make it affordable Cause there is going to be a release of Games utilizing the 64 bit Features Like UT 2003 which is going to be released the Same time the Processors are available for Consumer Market. I have also Noticed when I was Surfing the Manual Pages on My Redhat 8.0 System , and I was Reading the manual for gcc and g++ , Low a behold there are compiling commands for the x86-64 architecture in there so I feel that they will be affordable.

and here's an excerpt about when it wasn't called overclocking... (page 253)
"You may wonder how a chip can even run at a greater speed without failing. But in fact most chips can run at a higher speed than they are rated. For example, 80386-16 chips probably can run at 20MHz in a normal environment. When checking that part, Intel testa at many exremes in temperatrue and pressure, as well as for an amount of time that allowed the manufacturerrrr to know with confidence that the particular component will always perform to the rated specification. The part is guaranteed to run at the rated speed. To offer such a guarantee means that the manufacturer must have some "cushion" in the design, a cushion that is lost when the part is run beyond the rated speed.
"Here's a sample scenario. While thumbing through the back of one of the popular PC magazines, you spy an ad from Joe's Computer Shack. Joe is selling the "Super Turbo American Generic Premium Limited Extra 386 Plus," which is advertised to run at 28 MHz. (An immediate Tip-off here is that Intel doesn't make an 80386-28!) You purchase this system because you cannot believe the rpice for such a fast system. Even COMPAQ and IBM don't have systems running this fast.
"When your new system arrives in the mail, you open up the system to look at the 386 chip. You discover that the 386 chip is covered with a heat sink, a metal device that draws heat away from an electronic device. (This discovery provides another clue, because Intel designs the chips to run at rated speed without heat sinking.) You pry away the heat sink, which is either glued on with heatsink compound or attached with a special clamping mechanism. You discover an 80386-20 or 80386-25 under the heat sink. (Sometimes the markings will have been rubbed off or overwritten.)
"When you call Joe, his explanation for the deception is that he "tests all the chips by running the systems with a diagnostics program." If they pass Joe's test, then he certifies them as acceptable. According to Joe, "After all, Intel always makes their parts to run beyond the ratings."
"Intel would not agree with Joe's Methodology, and, as a matter of fact, would no longer warrant the chip. If the chip had passed Intel's strict testing procedures [validation] for the higher speed (which involves much more than running the chip for a few minutes in a PC), intel would have given the chip a different stamping and sold it for more money!

You will never find a name-brand system such as COMPAQ, ZENITH, or TANDY, and so on built with that kind of "Garage engineering." If the CPU is underrated, then probably are so many other components on the motherboard. Such a system will probably behave strangely, especially at higher operating temperatures."
Lets put it this way.. Athlon processors are faster than Intel's but Intel makes more money beacuse of those funny COMMERCIALS of pentium 3 and pentium 4 with the blue men and Aliens! Thats why AMD was doing so bad in sales and as you see the processors are cheaper in price compared to Pentium 3 and 4. So people like me who dont know much go for the more expensive one's thinking there better PENTIUM....
Oh common! Market research to most corporations is placing not too much import on the qualities that we hold dear. And it's only recently that AMD has had a viable product for mainstream corporate use, and even now reliability can be brought to question. Ask BPB about failures. And the financial strength of a vendor is more important, too. All those adds scream corporate strength.
Even I wouldn't touch an AMD for years. I built a 286 16MHz years ago. It was a POS. Don't get me wrong, I love my AthlonXPs, but would I suggest my lawyer buy one to pile books on and plug the vents with papers during an all nighter before an execution? Probably not. Auto cpu throttling is a MAJOR factor.
We are a small minority here, actually a small minority of zealots in the big pictire. Accountants, purchasing agents, lawers, doctors, Wall Street, etc., don't care about the few dollars difference in price/performance, they care if their vendor (DELL, IBM, HP, specialist, whoever) will be there to fix or replace it when they're having problems in the middle of a billion dollar deal or open heart surgery, etc. We enthusiasts are not all that important overall.
ok so AMD is 'specialised', more versatile to us o/c's.. They may be lacking in certain areas but so what? I'd much rather my AMD 2200+ than an intel. Compared with performace/price amd kicks the living shzittte out of intel. THATS GOOD ENOUGH FOR ME
