How do I kill I.E.?
My ISP[Platinum NetZero] did an auto update on internet start up.
As a result, MS's Internet Explorer launches as the browser, in place of Netscape, which has always been used.
"Q": How do I disable Interenet Explorer browser?
I have gone into CONTROL PANEL/Internet Options, & opened the PROGRAM tab. From there I selected Netscape7.0 under email heading, clicked "apply".
I close out I.E. browser, startup Netscape browser, confirm the message "Do you want to use Netscape as default browser?"[yes], and Netscape browser launches. So far so good, until I quit the internet & reconnect to find I.E. browser has returned!
How do I disable Microsofts Internet Explorer? I want my Netscape back!

I forgot to add that while I have Netscape browser up & running, I also confirmed using Netscape as my default browser by: click on" Preferences" under "EDIT", selecting Netscape as default browser, clicking "OK".

download 98 lite from www.98lite.net - install it and it will allow you to uninstall IE.. replace it with a browser called phoenix

OK, thanks for the link. Thats one way to do it.
Curious that I.E coexisted with Netscape for last three years. Must have something to do with my ISPs' software upgrade yesterday that "knocked-out" Netscape, and keeps it from holding its setting as DEFAULT browser...hmm.

There is a way to delete programs that microsoft didn't want to let you get rid of. Heres how to make Windows treat these applications just like it treats all the others so they show up in add/remove programs.
This only works in Windows 2000 or XP. I saw that you had win98 but decided to post this anyways as a tidbit of useless info for others out there.
1. Unhide all files
2. Search for sysoc.inf. Open it in notepad.
3. Look for the "Old Base Components" section in Windows 2000, and "Components" in XP. It will look approximately like this (depending on your version):
; old base components
Games=ocgen.dll,OcEntry,games.inf,HIDE,7
AccessUtil=ocgen.dll,OcEntry,accessor.inf,HIDE,7
CommApps=ocgen.dll,OcEntry,communic.inf,HIDE,7
media_clips=ocgen.dll,OcEntry,mmopt.inf,HIDE,7
MultiM=ocgen.dll,OcEntry,multimed.inf,HIDE,7
AccessOpt=ocgen.dll,OcEntry,optional.inf,HIDE,7
Pinball=ocgen.dll,OcEntry,pinball.inf,HIDE,7
MSWordPad=ocgen.dll,OcEntry,wordpad.inf,HIDE,7
The word "HIDE" in an entry hides that application from your Add/Remove Programs dialog box. To add games to the Add/Remove menu, delete the word HIDE from its entry (but leave the commas that surround it). You also have to remove "HIDE" from "AccessUtil=" for this tip to work. To unhide games, for example, my new "Old Base Components" Windows 2000 entry will look like the following:
; old base components
Games=ocgen.dll,OcEntry,games.inf,,7
AccessUtil=ocgen.dll,OcEntry,accessor.inf,,7
CommApps=ocgen.dll,OcEntry,communic.inf,HIDE,7
media_clips=ocgen.dll,OcEntry,mmopt.inf,HIDE,7
MultiM=ocgen.dll,OcEntry,multimed.inf,HIDE,7
AccessOpt=ocgen.dll,OcEntry,optional.inf,HIDE,7
Pinball=ocgen.dll,OcEntry,pinball.inf,HIDE,7
MSWordPad=ocgen.dll,OcEntry,wordpad.inf,HIDE,7
4. Save the file. Check for the new entries in the Add/Remove Programs dialog box after you restart your computer.
