Is this true?
I borrowed my AMD 2000XP to 123eskk recently and over-clocked it to a 2200 he also scraped off the thermal tape on the HSF,He said that it ran at 80-90 something celcius with the Tape on and normal tempretures without the Thermal Paste,It this true?(I haven't got a chance to test it)

it depends, theres onyl supposed to be a very thin layer od paste anyway's.. so if someones drowned it in the stuff, then yes you may see temp rises indeed, personally i always advise ppl to use paste but to use it properly, thin layer on the core, thin layer on the HS contact area, then rubbed into the surface whilt wearing a rubber glove.. works a treat

Obviously something was wrong. 80-90 degrees C is WAY TOO HIGH, even with retail HSFs and thermal tape. It must have not been seated right or something. I'd expect mid to slightly upper ~40s C with the thermal tape.
With thermal paste, depending on the certain paste, maybe high ~30s to mid ~40s C.

yeah 80c to 90c is way way too hot, just about to burn off and explode man
Retail HSF keeps it at between 40c to highest 70c
average is about 50c

well since its 123eskk he probably tried running it without a heatsink since he tells people to do that, but anyhow my friend had a tbird 1.33 with thermal tape on his hs/f and it ran around 60 celsius so we put some AS on it and now it runs low 40s - 50s

BTY, the temps I had stated where idle speeds.

No HSF is perfect, and w/o thermal paste most of the heat will stay in the core due to a lack of contact area... esp. if the pads/clip are worn... 80-90C?!!! What are you using, a steel super7 hsf?
What was 123esk thinking? W/O paste your CPU might work for a few days, then die.
Must be crashing and BSODing all over the place.

Gone Forever.......
One question why does 123eskk have your CPU?
Does that make any sense?
