pentium 2 450mhz with 1mb cache
I saw this xeon cpu listed on price watch for a wopping 1300 bucks. What is so special about it?
Does the 1mb cache really speed up this cpu?? Is it because it is a rare but good quality cpu??
What is so special about it?

That is wayyyyyyyy overpriced.
You need a Xeon motherboard to use it, so stay clear.
Yes it is faster with the higher cache, but the 2MB version is even better for high end CAD graphics systems.

you could get a whole new computer for that price. It's not worth it for just a 450mhz cpu.

I'd say that price hasn't been updated in ages.

Speaking of expensive processors, I saw a 1.6 ghz xeon w/ 1 MB L2 for about $4k

athlon xp 1600+ is $54
ps: are the xeons better than the MPs? because MPs are far cheaper, but they have less cache.

OpK Chowdy- xeons are much faster than MPs. As the MP is basically a XP, but the xeon is faster.

ok but are these chips rare? Can they be used as a gaming chip, or they only for servers, or graphic design?
And are xeon mobo really expensive?

Anything to do with a Xeon is way too overpriced. Many motherboards start around $400 and go up to several thousand for the system board.
They are not that much faster than a standard Intel or AMD processor, but they are much more stable and reliable, They are slightly faster with the much increased onboard cache but you would be foolish to create a gaming system with one of them.
If someone gave me a system I would take it, but I would never build one myself.
