    New to the Overclocking Game

I am new to this. My system is as follows

    Motherboard: PC Chips M921LR
    P4 1.5 Socket 423
    400 MHz
    512 MB SDRAM
    GF4 Ti4200 112MB

If more info about my system is needed please feel free to let me know. My first option is to overclock what I already have, begging the question as to what settings are the best (both performance and safty wize) for this set-up. Iam also considering getting a new processor. My problem here is first that most chips out there worth getting are 478 pin and 533 MHz fsb. What would I need to do in this scenario? Any info/opinion would be greatly appreciated.

    welcome to sysopt

    try

    here

    here

if you're gonna mess with overclocking learn the basics- the last link has some great links and will give you representative and best overclocking results with that cpu:

it's hit and miss, either the system won't boot, windows won't start, or once windows starts it's buggy and gves you blue screens, etc. in each case you know you've gone too far

then back off to the highest speed you can get

and make sure you cool that cpu with a good HSF combo

Not only a good HSF combo, but if you're going very much past your CPU's stock speed, also use plenty of case fans to keep the cool air coming in, or a water cooling scheme.

Or just open your case and point a desk fan into your box
