Well, it comes down to how much you have to spend, right?
I think your board can take up to a XP 2100+ ($119, presently listed on pricewatch). An XP 1600+ can be had for $52. With any luck, you could OC FSB and get up to 1900+ at least, without unlocking the cpu. It all depends on what your goal is.

Yes, the last BIOS update had XP2200+ support. So no problem there. I guess the REAL issue is which XP processor (Palomino/Thoroughbred) would be the optimal match with the rest of the system (especially the video card...) without breaking the budget. The Palominos can be had for less than the T-Breds, but are the T-Breds worth the extra cash? I could get a straight 2000+Palomino for under $100, but is it going too give me the boost I so desire ( ), or should I just go 2200+T-Bred? Or just break out with a fifty-spot for a 1600+?? I haven't really researched this much as I just hatched this idea recently...

Over here in the UK the best price to performance chip seems to be the 2100+

personally im waitng till chrimbo and the 2800+'s before i upgrade from my 1.4 tbird, by then hopefully the 2600+ will be a bit lighter on the wallet

I dunno. I blow $100 a week on **** and have nothing to show for it. So really, I'd actually end up with something AND not have spent it on nothing. Does that make any sense?? Interestingly, the 2200+ T-Breds on Pricewatch dot com, are all Palominos actually. Says so on the respective websites. What a misrepresentation. Maybe I will hold off on it for a month or two, maybe not, I dunno, can you tell I'm battling with this internal dialog?

Palominos aren't that bad of a chip, really. Might want to consider running one till the ClawHammers come out and necessitate a move to a 333/400 FSB.

EDIT - If you blow 400/mo on **** and have nothing to show for it, you can always send me 300 of it and watch me pay my monthly finance payments on my new car

What 's difference gonna be on the revision B?? I'll tell you what though, I was back and forth on this yesterday and "decided" (yeah, like I ever keep my word, even to myself... ), to just go 2200+. Speakin of creepy, I also have a 19" monitor, but it's a Sylvania F97 (not good/not bad, but $179 a year ago). When you run your T-Bird at 1500, do you set it to 11x136? I just yesterday pried the little HSF off of the northbridge of my mobo. It was all gummed up with a think wad of glue (thermal epoxy, I hope). Dang asian chicks that assemble these things, haha. Anyhow, I removed all the gizz and replaced that **** with some Arctic Silver, so maybe now I can get past 138 fsb (11.5x138 is all I could sustain with any stability, but that plus a Ti4200 oc up to 275/550 got me 9851 in 3Dmark2001SE, aint in the 10k club, but hey, they're a buncha snobs anyways ) Lemme know about those Rev.B's?!

Tom's Hardware has a good explanation of the differences between the T'bred rev "A" and rev "B".

Good article. Thanx. Jcb, I shall do it, as soon as I can make up my friggen mind! So, maybe anything over 2000+ is a waste on a KT266 chipset... not exactly the spunkiest. So, I could shoot for something JCB has: 1600+ to 2000+ range/price range. Yeah baby, I'm getting closer...

sorry. i have an antec 400watt not an enermax :-D

anyways. the revision b things are a better core that is easier to overclock, which is why i want it. yes, i do run mine at 11x136.

I am really looking forward to the day that all Athlon XPs become tbred Bs...then a 1600+ could overclock EVEN MORE (?) than the palomino. mwahahah that'd be scary.

and also, my ti4200 isn't overclocked and i get ~9500 on 3dmark. what drivers u using?

I just ran them @ 11x136 and 250/446 default. I got 9060 @ 1024x768x32 and 9429 @ 1024x768x16. So maybe it's my dinky KT266 chipset? Anyhow, I notice a tremendous improvement over my old GF2gts/pro, and that is really what matters, right? Tell me real quick though: do you have fast-writes enabled?
