    OE is acting up

Ok, first of all, it feels very weird comming back to the old place, but what the heck.

I have Win 98se, and Outlook Express 5 installed. For some reason every now and then (at random times) my POP3 Incoming mail server changes from "mail.earthlink.net" to "localhost". This happens randomly and then I have to change the settings back again or else I can't receive messages.

    Any ideas?

    Hi dude
    Welcome Back to SysOpt

the 1st thing i'll do is to find HOST

    it has no extension

it's just a plain file in
    C:\windows

either edit the HOST file or delete it

then 2nd thing i'll do is to get into the OE mail account settings, and see what is listed for SMTP server, and POP3 server

    that should fix you up

    Boy o Boy.

Tell me, L&F - are you using Norton Antivirus 2000 or 2001 on this PC?

yes Bill brings up a good point
that will be totally normal if you are in fact running NAV 2k+ with the POP3 email scan enabled

no NAV, but PC-CIllin 2000 pop3-scanning. OK, so I will disable that. What is the reason for POP3 scanning to change my POP3 server?

the AV software have to RE-ROUTE the email locally into a TEMP place to scanne it then re-attach it, then deliver it back to your mail software

yeah crazy stuff, so much work for such a simple task
