    ECs k7s5a & athlon 1800xp

I jst got this mobo from newegg, & im having a problem,
    IM using 1800+xp cpu & two 256MB pc133mhz memory,
    voodoo3 3000 agp card.
I believe the bios is 6-2002 dated.

when I boot up the processor is only showing 1150mhz only not 1800.is this correct(ram is 100/100)? I try to change the ram to 133/133, but it froze & would boot , need help with the configuration. thanks

When I use just one 256mb memory pc133 , it would boot & recognized the cpu as 1800+,no problem it will pass the booting, but once I added the other stick , it wont pass the boot & it will froze.

I checked both sdram memorys' but there's nothing wrong with them, they are made by pny.

The bios of the mobo is 6-26-2002 S,,,,,need help badly

hmm, there has been a lot of problems with this board and 133mhz bus. Try a BIOS update.

That could be it also, re-check the RAM.

nope, they are all pc133mhz. same brand, same upc code, my old mobo went bad thats why I bought this one.

also under win ME , according to system information under system tools, the version is 1.0, so which one is teling the truth.
on the post boot the version is 6-26-2002,,, I believe this is the latest bios according to ECS website.

it will only works with one 256mb but not two.

Have you tried the sticks one at a time?
That should show if one is bad or substandard...

yes, I did. I even swap them into diff slots, they both works.

except when it comes to both of them installed, the computer wont boot up at all.

Im thinking of upgrading the bios with the same latest version from ecs website, but they required to have bootable disk & im using win ME, it cant create one. is there any other way to do it? thx

Check the ECS forums at ocworkbench. I think there is a common problem with using two sticks of sdram in this board.

I am using a PCChips M830LR which is the same board as far as I can tell and 2 pc133 256 ram chips. No problems at all. System is stable as a rock with win98SE. Perhaps you could try the PCChips bios. Any body know if this will work? Peter Missel where are you?

Except for the name string, it's the exact same BIOS anyway. ECS web site is a little slower in releasing the stuff, so apart from mine being labelled "Eagletek M830L" anyway, I usually end up using the PC-Chips BIOS.

Like currently, on the ECS site you get the 06/26 BIOS while the pcchips site has the 08/09 one I'm currently running. The former has a bug affecting SCSI cards, so at the moment you definitely want to use the latter if you have mass storage on PCI cards.

    regards, Peter

This mobo is very sensitive with sdr ram, i had the problem where i had to run my mobo at 100/100, or my system would just freeze.

This lost me speed from my 1.4tbird and the mem was slower.

    Only 3 solutions 1. run at 100/100
    2. buy name brand ram i.e crucial etc
    3. get ddr, my probs went away.

Look at the www.ocworkbench.com forums, this is where i found out i wasnt the only person that had this problem.

You could also try upgrading the BIOS, but aparently the prob lies with some crappy mobo parts or something.
