    My $.02

"I haven't been a member for long, but I have been using this board to solve many of my problems with computers for a long time now. I find myself coming here every day with my coffee reading the new posts trying to help out when I know something about what is in question."

I could not have stated my current feelings any better and think that no one has the right to be offensive or rude to any member. I have been using this board for over a year (I lost my old ID, but had not more than 30 posts on that ID either) and hope it continues to help the appreciative people like myself.

This post has made me realize that I (and maybe many more humans) have my defenses up higher than ever before in my Lifetime about their Country. This may be because I am from New York and my rage about 911 is still growing. I did not see one mention here about 911 and that surprised me- I did not mention it here cause I was a newbie and have never seen a political post.

The political situation in this world is relative to the News we watch-- plain and simple. When I was in Canada last October visiting close Friends, I was amazed at their news and how different it was from ours. Canada's socialistic government concerns me, especially your immigration policies! We are brothers, like all bothers we are different but we will protect each other to the last man. The British are another one of our brothers that I would like to thank for standing by us. I do try to read some British Papers to get a feel on their News source, but I do not do that enough. - When the Canadian Prime Minister refuses to back the US against Iraq- that pisses me off- but I know we can depend on our brother! When Tony Blair says Britain will back us no matter what-- that makes me Smile and say Thank you. Half the countries in the United Nations are Dictatorships-

It is us against them- Free vs Evil- and we all are on the same team- lets think that way!

It is so hard to separate strong feelings and not factor Nationality into it- I know, but we must! I am not speaking for anyone but myself here, but when I hear Americans think this or Canadians think that-- wrong!!!!! Each person speaks for himself-- that’s it!!!!

Don't leave the board cause a few jerks (who cares where they were born, their Religion or Color) are morons- lets just point them out to the World-- information is Power!

I think I needed to vent and my dog is sick of hearing it!

On the topic of New York City - there was but someone (i.e. GermanJulian) got out of hand with his comments in many peoples views.

I made a decision half way through the board to leave, then decided to stay but in a very limited capacity - answering questions that have a definte answer not ideas and guessing.

Good point, DocEvil. These same people who foul mouthed America sort of shot themselves in the foot I would say. Their intention was to create a war of words and what they got was loss of respect from a lot of members here. Americans in general are tolerant of dissention and by letting them have their say just proves how wrong they really are about Americans. Don't limit your post though just because you are guessing at a possible solution. It is this guessing that is the essence of troubleshooting. Successful resolution of any problem dictates that we explore all the possible causes and only through the process of elimination can we eventually arrive at a solution. This is the truely the greatest asset of a free and open board like Sysopt. Each and every person, right or wrong, deserves credit for their help in the big picture.

Strat1, the post was eventually killed because it was offensive and demeaning to a lot of folks here who were affected by the disgusting display of inhumanity on 9/11 of last year. The timing and content of the posts was a rude display of ignorance and hate. Let's just leave it at that.

the thing about 911 is that it all depends upon whoever you talk to.... people from other countries - such as the Uk generally (or amongs those i know) dont see it as a big thing due to use being if you like "detatched" from the event... ie we live 1000's of miles away so it dont affect us.... similarly you (americans) could state regular IRA violence or the dunblane massacre is no big deal either... this would be quite offensive to anyone in Britain.. and so its a vicious circle... had god forbid a plane crashed into london on 9/11 it is very much likely opinion on this side of the pond would refelect more closely to those of our US friends....

...its all a matter of your location and you circumstance... and we should all learn to respect each others views, and circumstance and not jump on their backs the instant someone say something we disagree with and possibly we dont even know anything about....

Not to drag this through the mud or anything, but who are the the "theys" you're referring to? I think Germanjulian went on a rant all by himself and took it too far. I pm'd him to that effect. As out of line as he was, the responses he received were as absolutist and confrontational as his original comments.

As much as Osama, Saddam and George W. want to convince you that this is a black and white/us vs. them issue, it isn't. The men who did the hijacking weren't insane or criminals. What they did was wrong from a certain point of view and right from another point of view.

What made me most sad about the 9/11 rant was the stubborn simplification of everything into right and wrong. Like it or not we live in a world of greys, asking people to take a moment and consider that rather than retaliating doesn't seem like too much to ask.

Our (Canadian) Prime Minister did just that.

Questioning Canada's support of the US in this is very unfair. Many Canadians died in September 11th and we've just finished burying four of our own because they were bombed by trigger happy US pilots in Afgahnistan.

It's easy to criticize if you think you're absolutely right, but there is no such thing.
