    Desktop to laptop monitor

I'm on a temp assignment and stuck with an old Toshiba Versa laptop ( with P1 MMX processor) . Frankly it's friving me batty. I have enough left overs to put together a desktop but wanted to avoid having to spring for a monitor. My question - is there a way to use the minitor funtion in the laptop with an external CPU unit? Thanks for the help.

the only way you can use your LAPTOP LCD as a monitor for that spare desktop

if IF!! your laptop has the option for VIDEO IN, else you wont be able to.

nope, it either has a Video In, RCA yellow plug In, or S-Video In.

if you laptop does not have it, then you are out of luck.

say even if your laptop has it.

then you still need a cheapo video card on the desktop PC with S-Video out.
and the S-Video cable of course.

or at least the yellow RCA out, and yellow RCA cable, it's actuall called the Video Cable, but, when you mention RCA, people know what you mean quickly

doubt you have it on that ol' laptop

do a hard search on pricewatch, pricegarbber, whatever, and find a local source for used monitors so you don't have to pay shipping

I'm no purist, been lucky enough to find some very decent 17" monitors for very cheap - or just call the classified ads with computers, those folks may also have monitors laying around - make sure they're svga and make them plug it into a computer, some folks will try to rip you off

I just sold a compaq presario and another system this weekend and some people called looking for just a monitor - sold 'em a Sylvania 14" (very good shape, with internal speakers) for $25.

Thanks for the clearification Gamer. I can see that between required cable/cards I would need I can probably find a chepo monitor instead. At least that way I know that it will work. Thanks for the help.

Check out www.monitoronsale.com I picked up a 20" Apple/Sony for $150 refurbished. Had it for months with no problems...
