    Disabling sis530 on bios

    Hi,

Please help me anyone, being a technophobe myself. I want to disable the built in video card I have (sis530 4MB) and install a better an faster 3D accelerator that supports OpenGL. Can anyone advise ?

Since you have a SiS chip, you probably have a PCChips mobo or an Amptron motherboard.!
Well, if I'm not mistaken, you have to buy a PCI video card because probably you wont have an AGP slot on your motherboard. To disable the built in video, go to the BIOS, where it says:

Primary VIDEO: AGP ---> change that to PCI!
Now, save the settings, turn off the computer, put your new PCI video card and see if it works.!
I had a PCChips 598LMR and this was the procedure (and it is the procedure on a lot of PCChips or Amptron boards!).

Be advised that you really don't disable the video! It can act as multiple monitors I think!

    Further info

    Hi,

The BIOS concerned does not have an option to change AGP to PCI.

I have a Packard Bell / NEC FR520 Motherboard any help would be appreciated.

I do have an AGP slot on the motherboard, but when I tried to use the graphics card I bought it just reverted to the onboard card.

    Yours dazed and confused

Do you still have the manual?
Maybe you can't disable the card via BIOS.! Maybe you need to change a jumper setting on the motherboard.!

Let me check your mobo model..

    BTW, Welcome to Sysopt!

    Hello again!

First, it seems that you can disable the OnBoard video via jumpers!!

    especifically:

Check the images and read everything here! I'm supposing that this is the same motherboard you have! ANd if it is, YOU DON'T HAVE AN AGP SLOT! If this is not the motherboard, you will probably still need to disable the video via jumper.! If it is,
You'll probably have to change the jumper to disable onboard video. Then put your new video card and enjoy.
