Which AMD XP makes sense right now?

I'm curious... what amd XP speed makes the most sense right now?

I was thinking about the XP2000+ at first because I wasn't sure of the very modest improvements of the XP2100+ and XP2200+ in relation. I have heard though that right around the bend the 2400 and 2600+ are coming out, of course with that new FSB speed posibly.

Is it better to pick up the XP2000+ now or wait till 2400+ comes out?

Is XP2100 or XP2200+ worth it?

If I do get a XP2000+ how far is AMD going to go with these XP chips so I can just upgrade the chipset on my mobo without buying new MOBO?

Good questions, though I can't provide much in the way of advice, only a suggestion.

If you're planning on Overclocking - seriously - find yourself a nice cheap AGOGA Stepped Athlon XP 1900+

    Zoom Zoom.

Otherwise, just wait for the latest XP's to come out

a few reports floating around the web have suggested that AMD will go all the way to 3100+ with the Athlon XP series. both thoroughbred and barton cores will be somewhere in there. as far as what you should buy, it's really just a matter of how patient you are. the 2400+ and 2600+ aren't really do out until roughly october. however, as you know, AMD will mainly be focusing on it's new Hammer series and so i don't think that they will be as concerned with the release of faster Athlon XP's.

anywayz, if you want to, just go ahead and get the 2000+ now and then wait until the 2800+ comes out and get that. or wait and get a 1700+ thoroughbred and ocverclock that. you should get some fairly nice results.

    According to PriceWatch :

    $199 ... Athlon XP 2200
    $146 ... Athlon XP 2100
    $117 ... Athlon XP 2000
    $99 ..... Athlon XP 1900
    $76 ..... Athlon XP 1800
    $68 ..... Athlon XP 1700
    $60 ..... Athlon XP 1600
    $61 ..... Athlon XP 1500

Notice the $18 difference between the 2000+ model and the 1900+ model. Compaired to $29 difference between the 2100+ model and the 2000+ model. And to $23 difference between the 1900+ model and the 1800+ model. Got the idea ?
If you didn't , the answer to your question is 2000+

I would also go for the 2000. It is the most worth the money of the current xp processors. As far as the 2400 and 2600 go, i wouldnt go for those. They wont have the new fsb, only the 2800 and up will have that. If ur looking to buy tho, i would recomend waiting for a hammer. And even if ur on a budget, still wait cause the prices should drop significantly on xp's after hammer

woah, MASSIVE price drops......Hey guys..... Ya think this might be signaling the release of the xp 2400?? Kinda like how, for some reason, its very very quiet before a storm..... Or how a leader stream comes up to meet the main stream in a lightning bolt...... You get the picture....I would wait just a bit to see if these price drops have a big meaning

    Thanks
If the XP goes up to 3400+ on this chipset then thats good nuff for me. I guess I could get a XP2000+ now (i only have a PII400 so anything is fast) and then upgrade in future with single chip.

As for budget im not too budget crazy but I dont like buying something for a lot more that doesnt give bang for buck. I have around a $2500 budget for this computer that I'm building.
