How do I create a working copy of the o/s across disks

I have a dual partitioned system at the moment.

    C:WinME & D:WinXP

I would like to end up with XP on C: (without rebuilding completely) and d: as a data disk.
So I need to copy my dXP) drive to CME) get it working ad then format d:
I dont think xcopy is a posibilty as this would still leave all the references pointing at d:
Can you suggest the best way to do this please.

I think you are going to have problems doing it and keeping references correct. I say bite the bullet and rebuild...
    good luck
it is always the last thing you check...

I'd have to second that. You will never get all the pointers straight, and it will take more time to re-create them than it will to rebuild.

    Sorry bout that!

    It's not even the pointers

WinXP will not run at all PERIOD!!!
cuz the "kernel" core/regisytr, whatever ...was set to and compiled to only work in D:

so no way, you'll have to re-install WinXP from nothing.

All you need do is install XP on c: as usual, then you create a "program Files" folder on D:,
when you install your apps you choose the custom option and browse to the (fake) program files folder on D: and install there, the shortcut will still be on C: and everything should work as normal.

[EDIT] you should create a new folder inside "program files" for each app that you want to install, or they will all be bundled together and you may have problems un-installing any of them without crashing the rest. I regularly do this with my games.
