BILL: ?Buy her a vacuum cleaner.?
Do/did you have a death wish?

    Anyways,
I get flowers NEVER when they expect them. NEVER on Valentines, etc. Way too expensive. And, they won't expect it either. Buy flowers for her when she is having a down time, ****ty week, etc.. They don't have to be expensive flowers, just a few 'pretty one' will do. Believe me... I have been doing this for 30 years (for the same woman, you disbelievers). For myself, I get Irises since she likes them, or a stem that has many flowers, like Alstromeria (spelling?).
As for candy/chocolates, nah. "don't you know what I like?" and other verses.

Best thing to do, is watch what she likes when she mentions it. Back track and buy it, stoing for the next event. Either she likes it or not (if not, how can she say no, when she already said she does).
Also, jewellery is always a good idea. Woman always like jewelery. I have no problem buying stuff, but if you are unsure, a gold chain is fairly easy to buy. Earrings, bracelets, broaches are nice too. She will normally like it, but she didn't she will thank you for trying.

I do not buy rings! For a girl friend, this may be a sing of engagement. For a wife, she may want another stone in it later.

Clothing, for me at least, was too personal, till I got married. Then, a good reference is to buy from the mannekin.... buy the ensemble. The display person normally knows what goes together... outfit and accessories (don't get shoes).
Just make sure the colours match what she normally wears.

I'd steer clear of clothes (specially underwear - we know you boys buy that stuff for your enjoyment, not ours ) You can't go wrong with chocies - expensive ones, not Milk Tray! Rick's got the best idea, listen to what she mentions she likes and pop back to the shop & get that for her. Something thoughtful & personal always beats something expensive & flashy in my book - of course thoughtful & expensive is best

For me though that helicopter ride would beat jewellery - that'd be cool
