    What do you run?

Just wondering what's the most popular right now. People seem leery of XP and there is still a love affair with 9x with many people. Has M$ saturated the market and abused users to the limit? Do you pay for M$ or abuse them back and use it for free? Has an alternative been worth the effort?

I've recently tried out XP and I'm curious to see if people would rather just use it, skip buying a new graphics card to buy it or just stay where they are.

Can't really answer because I run w2k, 98 and Linux. One box a dual boot (w2k/linux), one linux and one 98se on it because it is a 133, gonna get rid of 98 and put linux on it one day. BEOS is dead and the company was sold. Of course there is openbeos. Dude got people all excited about beos and then sold it!

Never knew there was a license for linux but I have paid for it, had it sent to me and downloaded it. I have not paid for it since drake 6.1 or something. Paid for xp (huge price break!), w2k, 95, 98, 98se and beos 5 but did not for beos 4.5.

Ah, but such a big difference between I recommend XP and I *bought* XP.

Also a big difference between what would you suggest and what actually happened.

I'm curious as to how many people have adopted XP, especially considering the hoops M$ want you to jump through to get their buggy, beta.

I was hoping that I could set the vote to allow multiple access so people could accurately put how many oses they run, but I never got the option ... especially a problem on SYSOPT where the poweruser lives and I'd guess over half of the people reading this have at least a dual boot system. Could an admin set it to allow multiple accesses to the poll?

People tend to be pretty free with other people's money and very tight with their own (even to the point of downloading a copy and not buying it).

    So what's your MO BigJakk?

    In summary:

Got 2k Pro -- and love it - would reccomend it to anyone and would never personally go back to 9x. Would probably find myself going to XP sometime but only for the novelties and shell enhancments, as both 2k and XP are more or less the same underneath.

Its all more or less in that thread i posted the link to -- youve just got to read deep... and to be honest im too tired to really write anyhting of substance
    (no changes there then)

Aha! I suspected a died-in-the-wool atheist would go for 2k pro! It's so spartan!

I remember someone saying a while ago that W2K was a stripped down racer. I though to myself, "cool."

I guess some people want a Lotus and some prefer the Bentley.

It provides me with the power and stability win 9x cant provide me with without any of the (rather appealing actually) superflouss novelties of 2k and its shiny GUI.

I use them all - bought and paid for. IMHO they are all worth every penny that I paid. XP has been a real rock - both Pro and Home. Microsoft doesn't ask for enough, IMO. I still hate WPA though - it's an inconvenience.

Considering that I only paid $54 for ME, it has been a bargain too.

I currently run Slackware Linux 8.1, which I bought. I do have BeOS 5.0 Pro, Red Hat 7.3 Pro, Mandrake 8.2 Powerpack, and SuSe 8.0 Pro, all of which I paid for, but I'm not using at the moment.
This will all be over before you can say Cat in a Hat.
