Garbled Jpegs And DVD Playback :@

Had this problem about three month now on both Win98SE and 2000 Pro. basically after orderign a replacment BIOS chip - all Jpegs appeared a mass of gabled colour (excpet those displayed in Opera and psp7), and the video playback from dvd's and div x's is just a mass of garbled colours. I have tried it all, reflashing BIOS'es, updating drivers, changing IDE configs and BIOS settings to no avail. Anyone got any ideas??

    Cheers

What type of motherboard/CPU is it? I saw a similar problem once before after cracking a chip off the core of a 800MHz Thunderbird...

Can possibly be the "famous" K6/K7 bug. Just try to see if it happens with another CPU, post back the results.

im leaning with you on this ND as to CPU damage... however as a long shot/stab in the dark i was wondering could excess thermal paste etc have crossed soem of the L bridges and caused adverse effects at all??

Very possible - you should've seen all those processors which were brought back to me by customers who applied TONZ of thermal paste coz their processors ran too hot
Try different CPU - you'll know for sure if it's your problem.
