Good strategy game?
Can anyone recommend a good strategy game?
I thought one of the best was SW Rebellion. I was looking at the Civilization series and thought they were so-so.

Shogun = old MS Age of Empires = boring
Commando 2 = is a 3d First person shooter, so i don't consider it a Strategical game
Age of Empires 2 = boring, no futuristic stuff
Ground Control = not bad, nut kinda lame compared to other better games like Tribes 2 and alikes.
for that case, Red Alert 3D Renegade is better.
Z !! = only ****, too boring of a game, another lame excuse of being a strategical game
C+C red alert 2 = good decent game
Cossacks : The art of war = never heard of it, no comments
Warcraft 3 = very good game, in 3D engine, but too bad is only medieval and mystical stuff, else this will have been a kick a.s.s. game for me.
i'm staying with StarCraft until they release StarCraft 2 in the same engine.

Medieval Total war is coming out soon - should be good.
Commandos and commandos are good, hard strat games - worth the money.

The Cossacks games are good, kinda a Age of Empires clone but there are muskets and cannons, plus pikemen and cavalry. Time period is somthing like 1500-1700 or a little higher than 1700
Age of empires games- they started it all in RTS genre very good games imo.
CCgames- are really good I like them future units along with normal real life stuff.
Stronghold( next one is coming out soon Stronghold crusader) is also a good one; it takes place in the middle ages. Castles and such.
Real war- not known very well, it is ok modern day units and stuff.
Sudden Strike 2- a lot like the 1st one a great RTS.
Also Warcraft 3 is very good just takes a while to get used to the camera and 3dish look.
^^^^^^ All of those are rts^^^

Thanks for the responses. I think this is probably one of the hardest genres to get games for. I think I will try out the starcraft, sudden strike and work from there.

Excuse me, but that's not right
the very 1st and coolest RTS was DUNE 2 by Westwood studio
i beat that game fair and square in every house and every possible way.
That was before i learned there were such things called CHEATS and TRAINERS
and that game Dates back to Pre Internet
when modem 14.4 and 28.8 BBS was at its prime.
then it ware replaced by
WARCRAFT 1 and then WARCRAFT 2
after WarCraft 2 thousands and thousands more of Clones came after that.
and they all sucked until... C&C Command and Conquer, and C&C 2 and .... well then more crappy clones,
yeah even Age of Empire 1 was a clone.
well then we have todays games, which are more clones but on a 3D engine.

Ahhh, Amiga...for some reason I think strategy games are de-evolving with age. I think we should all chuck our GeForce4's and go back to the ole reading and writing games....oh God.

Make sure you don't consider starcraft, warcraft 3 as clones.
Strarcraft is extremely innovative and balanced, filled with strategies. WC3 is the first game to combine role playing and RTS.

WarCraft and WarCraft 2
are the Titles that did that.
that's why M$ hired that guy to make Age Of Empire to make a game just like that so the can share the fame.
the guy got so pissed at M$ that he jumped boat to Sierra and made Empire Earth
which was what he had originally planed.
but cuz M$ or Bill Gay, was too much in a hurry to release the game to CATCH a share of the RTS fame.

You are Correct
well to start with, all these strategical titles
WarCraft
WarCraft 2
StarCraft
StarCraft BroodWar
WarCraft 3
all these are from the same Blizzard company (they make the best games ever)
so although StarCraft is a clone in genre it's on its own a game of its class, cuz even after all these years there's a HUGE and i mean a huge fan base playing it cuz of it's never endless maps etc etc...
the only ever successful game due its Map Editor.
then now the recent WC3 as you said it's a genre of its own also cuz of the RTS + RPG mix, Mixed very good i must say.
and they applied the same success of the Map Tool, which is already taking its share of fans.
WC3 is not my favorite game cuz is not a Sci Fi theme, it's a good game just not my style.
by the way finished it already
can't wait for the SC2 on the same engine.
after seeing the preview at the end of the game, it just keeps me drwoooling

AllGamer- I am positive if you were to take an online poll you would see many more people saying AOE is what started it for them.
( not a poll with above average gamers ect)
