    High Temperature w/o OC

    At work i have this PC that really troubles me. It's CPU Temperature is 60 C ,System 45 C and it has a slow performance in simple tasks.
    Here are the specs
    AMD Athlon XP1800+(No OC)
    Gigabyte 7VTXE+ bios f4
    IBM 60GXP 40 GB
    IBM 60GXP 60 GB
    512 RAM (single module)
    SB 64 PCI
    Prolink Geforce 2 MX400 64MB
    2 fans on case
    300 W PSU
    I can't get it to cool down
    The PSU emits a lot of heat from its exhaust
    any ideas?

    When you put the heatsink on cpu did you use the pad or paste?

    it has a silver paste on.
    It came prebuild.
    I added the extra fan only to reduce the temp from 65 to 60.

    What hsf is it using, I dont see it on the list. Maybe they used a cheap fan, dump what they put on and get some 6000+ RPM bad boy on there and you will see your temps drop. Also, your case may not be well designed. I know my case sucks and my temps are about 8deg. higher with the sides on than off...

    Yo say you added a fan. Make sure it is blowing out if is just below the PSU, or blowing in if it is front bottom.

    make sure the heatsink is setting flat on the cpu. if the h/s is sitting cockeyed, not level, or if it's caught on the end of the socket, it won't be getting full contact to the core, which will cause hot spots. for my athlon 1800+ i bought a nonconductive shim for about 10 bucks including s&h from hardcorecooling.com, and that helped my beefy thermalright sk-6 sit flat on the athlon, and also helps keep the core from getting damaged

    My friend has XP1600+ with a 75C full load witha HUGE 8000RpM HSF... And he works on it for 3 months. No any problems.
    I recommend you to forget it and have a healthy sleep .

    I had great sucess lapping my heatsinks. Lapping is when you use sandpaper and a flat surface (glass) to make the bottom perfectly flat. My heatsinks were not flat and that left a hot spot on the chip.

    Both sinks I did lowered the temps 4C.

    Do a search and lapp any heatsink you get.

    If you want to run stock setting it doesn't matter. If you want to pay for a 1600+ and run as fast as a 2100+, then get a good heatsink and lap it.

    Every thing runs cooler when you first clean and lap it. Give it a while, it'll heat up again. Summer is just around the corner.

    Add 2 intake fans on the side cover directed at your mobo, and and use 2 exhaust fans on the top of your case. Noisy but effective.

    open your system find-out who’s emitting heat your mobo or psu ,,,check also the pan air flow and balance both intake/ exhaust for better air circulation in your system intake in front and exhaust is back ,
