    Weird boot

I am working on an old PC Chips M565mb, and the system won't boot when the floppy drive cable is plugged in correctly. BUT! if I turn the cable over and plug it in backwards the system boots fine, except of course that I have no floppy available. Also the boot from CDROM starts and then hangs up. Any one have any Iideas???

The floppy drive may be bad, but try clearing the CMOS first.

It's not the floppy, I have tried 2 other floppys, one brand new, all with the same weird boot problem. I will try the cmos clear, although I think this may be a floppy controller on the motherboard gone bad, I unplugged the (DO NOT DO THIS UNLESS YOU CAN AFFORD TO LOOSE YOUR SYSTEM)floppy and reversed the the data cable and then plugged it back in and the system says "not ready reading drive a:"

    Change the cable.
    What else can I say?
It won't boot plugged in?Set to boot from A,C etc. The CD having problems. Its hard to figure whether you're dealing with a hardware error or Bios or power.
This is one of those things you've got to just tinker with.

You tried another Floppy Drive or just Disk?
If just disk I'd say drive is bad or cable try another.
The chances floppy controller is bad are slim but it could happen.

Floppy drives and cables go bad like car alternators so forth. It is standard to replace one every now and then.
