    Dream system

    Greetings fellow gamers!

I've finally decided on getting myself a new system just for gaming. The question to you hardcore gamers is, with the budget of US$2000. what config. would you go for?....the only prerequisite is that I'm for Intel 100%.

    Thanks in advance!

are you really going to spend $2000 US on a computer for gaming ****.....
To me, clowns aren't funny. In fact, they're kind of scary. I've
wondered where this started and I think it goes back to the time I went
to the circus, and a clown killed my dad.

Does $2000 for a computer, just for playing games sound too much?.........The thing is, I don't use the computer for any other purposes other than surfing the web occasionally.

    ...any other reccomendations?

I'll cut that budget in half and get a "not so bad" computer, like a P4 1.8 ghz with ATI Radeon 8500. 17" monitor is good enough, and 19" is too heavy (if your desk is small and week) 60 gig hd will definitely do for gaming. Well, don't get fancy speakers, just a headset (cheap and critical).

If you're lucky, that would cost less than $1000 us dollars.

remember, the $2000 system will come down to $1000 in three month, and the $1000 will probly be $800. Which one breaks more????

I agree, ditch the speakers and save yourself $350 with some decent logitech's or similar. Also, don't get a 19" crt go for a 17" lcd. It's got the same viewable size, take up less room and are oh so tasty for the eyes. You could also probably get a GeForce4 ti4400 instead of the 4600 and save another $100, then just OC it a bit to get it to 4600 performance.

The Ti4400 is good enough. Mine gets me to 9300 in 3dmark2001 easily and it isn't OCed yet. As for HDD, I use 2x40Gb IBM Deskstars. Quiet and fast.
As for Intel - nobody's perfect

Oh, yeah, about the LCD idea, don't get the LCD so soon, because with the current technology with Flat Panels, the LCDs are not good for gaming(I personally own a 15" LCD). Don't even think about it if you want to play DVD movies on a computer with LCD display. I once had a good idea to buy a dual support monitor and buy another17" trinitron and keep my 15" LCD. Becuase of my budget, that idea was permanently postponed. 17" LCDs does have the same viewable size as 19" crt(My 15" LCD looks like a 17")

Right. I wouldn't spend 2000 bucks if you don't have to. I'll bet 1000 would get you where you want to go if you shop around. I'm totally with the idea of the Radeon 8500 vid card. I have one and it is a totally amazing card. I play games like Serious Sam 2 a lot and it is truly beautiful to behold. No slowdown whatsoever.

Buy a PS2 or XBox and go to the local library to get online. $2000 is far to much for a games machine.

Intel=not gaming systems. Overpriced, overbugged, overhyped clockspeeds (clockspeed means basically squat when comparing processors of different make, which is why a 1.73 ghz amd can murder a 2.1 ghz intel) Get an Athlon XP, any mobo with VIA KT333 and a GeForce 4 Ti 4600.

I agree. If performance is your goal buy a Tyan Tiger dual board - 1800MPs - (you will need WIN XP pro) and you could easily stay below your $2000 budget with all the extras. Why would anyone spend $600 on a processor?? Check out some benchmarks comparing the two!!
