Eat cherries. Canned cherries or fresh. 12 per day for a week.
Stop eating sweets and rich foods.
I have a friend that has it and he cant walk.
if you cut down on the foods that contain the purines, and keep taking the medication, the gout attacts will get become less frequent. it helps to drink lots of fluids ( to flush out the nasties!) and I have found that tomatoes help break down the uric acid. stay away from shellfish, that will start an attact quicker than anything!!
I live with a victim of this disease!! and by trial an error we can just about control it.
last sunday he could not resist some 'jellied eels' (any brits out there will know what I'm refering to!) on monday morning he was in agony and I was back on the valium!!!!!
it was called the 'disease of kings' because it was only the well off and noble who could afford the type of rich foods that cause the build up of uric acid. the poor had a much meaner diet, so in the lower classes the disease was rare.
nowadays we all have a better diet, so the occurance of gout is more common.
