Does it do any good to place a fan or heatsinks on the top side of a vid card?

Thanks, I'm upgrading my vid card from a 7600GT. My system has a Opty144@2.5 A 4850/70 will work fine until I build a new system,then I'll just put it in the new one.

I'm interested in a ATI 4850 vid card. What's the advantage of 1gb over 512 mb memory?

Thanks for ya'lls input. I've decided on the HD4850. It's going for $120 now and probably will drop under $100 in a momth or so. If the performance is good, I may wait on my system upgrade.

My system : Asus A8N-E, Opteron 145 OC'd to 2.4, 2 gb ram, Geforce 7600 Gt,XP Pro,plenty of fans and open case.
I'd like to upgrade to a better vid card, but one that would go into my next system...

I have a spare 20" Viewsonic LCD monitor. Can I use a VCR recorder (it has a built in TV tuner) to drive it?

OK, I think I've got it. But , are both ends of the heatpipes capped off? Or, are they one continuos loop of pipe?

I didn't know that heatpipes were liquid filled. But, would forced air be better than static (non moving) coolant?
