Cheers, i have tried a new cable, same errors. I asked about formatting because i thought windows contained drivers as well.
The writer worked fine when i first installed it a month ago.

I've had loadsa problems with my cd writer recently, keep getting aspi errors, or 'is not atapi compatible f1 to resume' and when my writer does show up it shows up as a removable disk.

I have restored the settings to default setup, my computer boots up ok (slower than usual) Sometimes my cd writer shows up as a removable disk, sometimes its not showing up at all.

Thanks for the info, what i have done since this problem arised is

Updated my ASPI drivers

Loaded the old values in setup
Tried fail safe in setup

Reset everything in setup to the settings...
