You may have a CPU from the pre-lock days or maybe an engineering sample. But all Intels (except ES) have been multiplier locked since sometime in '98.

Windows won't care what CPU you have, but the BIOS/motherboard might. Is this a direct replacement for another 200 CPU? Or is this one faster/slower?

Did you clear CMOS? Does the slotket support Coppermine?

A couple of points not mentioned that may be useful to others:

To run Windows install from the HD, you don't need the entire disk copied over. Only the Win98 directory is needed. All the .cab...

My advice would be to try it both ways and see which gives the lower temperature. Most of mine are blowers because I have case fans pulling in room air near each of them. Mr Delta pulls in that air...
