Give Compatibility Mode a try. Right click the program icon on the start menu, click on Compatibility and select Run in Compatibility Mode for Windows XP Service Pack 2, click apply then ok.

Acer support should have the SATA AHCI (F6) driver listed for your model. Ordering a Recovery CD from them is easy, and make the install almost effortless. Another option is try installing Ubuntu.
