The fact that he's logging into a domain has nothing to do with his PC at home. The PC that's logging into the domain is his work PC, which is XP-pro.

I had the same problem in Windows XP pro. Try disabling the Background Intelligent Transfer service. It worked for me.
Note that disabling this will not allow windows update to automatically...

When i first played it i had aa and af turned on. It caused a lot of graphical issues. Gun disappearing and suchlike. I turned the aa and af to application prefference and the problem went away.
