Greetings, All. :t
After a bit of a hiatus, I've returned with some good news.
I upgraded to Windows XP recently and have since run some benchmarks with the new OS.
Here's my results:
3DMark2001SE - 12,186 (gain of 62)
3DMark2003 - 4,544 (gain of 256!!)
I still can't explain why my 03 marks are so high when compared to my 2001SE marks, but I'm pleased with the gains. I also seem to be enjoying an increase of 10-20 FPS in UT2k3, which is stellar. Naturally, I don't have the experience to say whether or not the improvements can be attributed to the new OS or simply the fresh install/defrag/etc. Either way, I'm very happy to date with XP. It's almost idiot proof to some degree. Now, I just need to tweak it up. Anybody have any suggestions?
BTW, Here's my system:
2.4GHz P4
MSI 645 Ultra MOBO w/ 450Watt PS
1024MB PC2100 DDR
Radeon 9700 Pro running Catalyst 3.2
Creative Labs Audigy Gamer
40GB Seagate HD @ 7200RPM
Yamaha CRW2200E
Windows XP Home SP1 running DirectX 9.0
Good to be back.
-Mr. Underhill.
Mr. Underhill,
You mite know it already but incase you don't
start.....run.......msconfig.....will let you shut off alot of stuff you don't need on start-up.
next.....Administrative Tools........services.....make sure to disable remote registry edit (nice back door for some) and messenger (nothing to do with MSN messenger)
There are few more things you can disable per your needs:t
Set restore point incase you shut off something that win xp needs:)
Thanks, Beast.
I knew about msconfig and use it regularly. The backdoor, however, I knew nothing about. I'll look into disabling it.
Thanks for that advice!
-Mr. Underhill.
I have a Geforce 3 TI200 now and I'm scoring 977 which is much better than before with my Geforce 2 MX I used to get 70!:t
Score 4,768 in 3DMark03 but strangely the CPU tests wont run! My screen just goes all flickery and i have to abort (it does not freeze!!)
Dunno bout CPU Test 2, just try it... Runs -- only at 8.3fps average though! Going to have to get round to overclocking soon! Up to now all my scores and benchmarks are stock.
LIST OF BEST SCORES TILL NOW

CPU test just ran fine that time!! WeIrD!! I will try and sort it out - by the way 3DMark03 is no way NEAR as goog as 3DMark01SE!!! It is because it is based on cr*ppy DX9.0a!

Well here is the latest...........up from my last time I posted in this forum discussion.
oops
I've done no overclocking anywhere on my setup.
GA-8PE800 Ultra Motherboard (I845PE chipset)
Intel Pentium 4 3.06Ghz @ 3082Mhz
1Gb DDR RAM (PC2700)
160Gb hard disk (7200rpm, 8Mb buffer)
ATI Radeon 9700 Pro (128Mb)
Windows XP Pro SP1
Catalyst 3.4
On 3DMark 2003, I got 4839 which I think is OKish.
On 3DMark 2001, build 330 I get 14674, which I think is way too low considering most of the reviews I've read get 15500 and above.
I think I have the same problem as Mr. Underhill. Low 3dmark 2k1 scores, and high 3dmark 2k3 scores.
Oh yeh, defragging my hd got me an extra 60 3dmark 2003 points, and 197 extra 3dmark 2001 points!
Up there i said goog instead of good:rolleyes:
I saved a result i got!, as a 3dr file - How do i view the result again? Do i need to download a result browser or is it included?

Cant be far off the highest score posted here
Upgraded yeterday to a Saphire 9700pro....a few tweaks and away we go.
So why come I am only getting a stingy 14646 in 3DMark2001..?
I was really wanting to see that scoring up near 16000. Anything I can do to get this score up a bit..?
System:
2.4GHz P4 @ 2.538Ghz
1024MB DDR333 RAM @ 352Mhz
Radeon 9700 Pro running Latest Catalyst 3.4 (Core 364, Mem 344)

Asus 4B533-V Mobo
Windows XP Home running DirectX 9.0
Got to make 6000 points with a week...haha.
Any tips on my 3DMark 2001?
Yeah get the CPU clock speed cranked up a bit more and aim for as high an FSB as possible. THe problem faced with the overclockign in your case is that the CPU is a P4, thus you have no leeway to play about with the multiplier :(

Ah, haven't posted in quite a while. Anyway to the scores!!!

Score is pretty good, I think for an old Radeon 8500.
Seeing my computer come to a crawl at 3-5FPS on the troll demos was depressing but don't particularly care as the actual games I run are fine which is what matters. Anyway scores as follows:-
3DMark2001SE = 12012
3DMark2003 = 1616

ASUS A7N8X deluxe BIOS 1004

3d mark 2001SE: 9800
3d mark 2003: 2700
Does anybody know why the 2001 score is that low??
The nature test of the 3s mark 2003 is amazing. it looks so realistic.
My second computersystem:
Athlon XP 2000+

1596 3D Marks. I was suprised as hell.....My friend has a p4 2.4 w/512 of some kind of rambus, and a ti4600. He got a 1460. Dang. And my card cost 100 less. Everything on the Video card maxed.
Amd Athlon 2100+ xp

****!!! Just ran 3DMark2001SE again and got 13496.
I am going to have to defrag! :t
3dmark03 is still the same score less a 100 marks.
More tweaking..........
even more tweaking......
can't understand why 3DMARKS2001SE
scores don't increase but, 2003 scores do.

I have every thing pretty well maxed out as far as o/c goes, and this is the best I think I can do and remain stable.
Looks like this bench runs so much better on the ATI cards. I have been an Nvidia man until now(TNT, Geforce2, Geforce3 Ti 200). Going from the Ti 200 to the 9500 pro gave me better graphics(no jaggies), and better frame rate to boot. I have to say though, that my old Visiontec Xatasy Geforce3 Ti200 is still a good card. I was still able to run all games with it, just not quite the quality/frame rate. I wish I could afford a 9700pro or 9800pro. This bench to me looks as though it relies 75%-80% on the video card. There must be some issue with the Nvidia cards and this bench, as there is a difference in the performance on ATI/Nvidia, but I do not think it is too the extent that this bench shows.
What settings do you guys run the bench on? Sorry if this has already been covered :)
With no AA or AF, everything set to performance:
