The Pentium4, taht wins most tests is the Extreme Edition, which isnt available yet. In games, that Athlon64 3200+ has about the same scores as the P4 3.2c.

Also, the Pentium4 3.2c isnt cheaper than the Athlon64 3200+: In my area, the Pentium4 3.2C costs about 700€ (about 800$) and the Athlon64 3200+ only costs about 500€ (about 550$).

Also, all these benchmarks are 32bit and when 64bit apps come out, the Athlon64 will be far better than the P4. It will not take long: Epic will release a 64bit version of Unreal Tournament 2003 as sonn as the 64bit version of Windows will come out (probably in the middle of 2004).

Also, Apic said, that 2005 they will produce a 64bit only game, and there will sure follow others. This game wont even be playable on a 32bit CPU.

AMD is by far the best bet for price/performance, can Intel deliver anything close to a 2500+ for $85? At the top of the line AMD is still much cheaper, I think the 3200+ is about $450 and the p4 3.2ghz is around $650? I won't really rely on those benchmarks too much until the p4 extreme edition (which I personally think is a huge marketing ploy, not impressed at all) and the 64bit athlon chip is widely availible. If I were to buy any top of the line chips right now it would definately be the 64bit chip. It won't be long until the first 64bit games come out (exciting!) and soon following that everything will be run 64bit.

Coincidentally everyone else who has compared the P4EE to the Athlon64 FX-51 has given the crown to the Athlon.

See this article here on [H]ardOCP where they declare the A64 FX-51 the winner.

On the Tech Report they have an article
here where they say the A64 FX-51 has a strong claim to the title of fastest x86 processor.

Lost Circuits gives the nod to the FX-51 too.

So the concensus is very much that Tom's Hardware got it wrong again.

Also the infamous P4EE is NOT yet available, and set for a price of $925 at launch while the FX-51 can be bought for about $750 and Newegg had stock on launch day. The P4EE is not going to do it.

Toms Hardware is alway known to favor Intel a little bit. And even there the Athlon 64 FX-51 wins against the P4EE in most gaming tests.

the details eh ammok, well the difference between the 9600 PRO and the 9800 PRO is that the 9600 pro doesnt kill my 420 WATT PSU lol.......owell its a generic one anyways.....im getting a enermax 460 soon with 35,35,33 rails :)

well i think the IQ looks a little better and it handles the games the 9600 PRO cant handle EVEN SMOOTHER!!!! boy its great with max detail on Halo WOW on my 9600 PRO it was chugging at 1024x768 with everything on!!!

the 9800 PRO will handle all newer games that will come out........i love it :D

also there seem to be a lot more detail with the 9800 PRO i dont know why........maybe its the pixel shaders and all that new technology thats in the card

i told him he could overclock if he wanted to :)

It seems to me that me and compooter get the same cards at the same time and sell the 9600pros at the same price with the same coolers on them, thats kinda odd, but i guess i will post my 03 score. 7483.

Mem speed is 370 (DDR speed at 740)

Overclocking is pretty pointless really, and i do a fair bit of it.

The Performance gained from overclocking gfx cards is hardly noticable. Oh and plus if u don't know what your really doing u will undoughtable damage it :)

The performance gains are pretty negligable when you are looking at high end cards like the 5900 and 9800...however with middle end cards like the 9600 or 5600, overclocking acutally yields very noticable performance gains in actual gaming.

If so get em to let u shove it in ur box, ul b suprised how it will favour your rig, although this maybe mainly to the bodged driver issue hehe :)

P.S i do not favour the FX range in anyway what so ever, as they are in everyway pertheticly crushed by the DX9 radeons :) lmao

Well 01 is outdated and seeing how it has a lot to do with the CPU, you might want to use 03 and then we will see how your 9600pro rates up against everyone elses.

lol your getting 1600 plus? lol im getting 16 thousand dude lol not hundred..... i have check every site there is and nobody has gotten a score even close to that except for one i found got 34,000 but he had a 3.2 way way overclocked... and i dont have a 9800 pro.. i have a 9800 xt differnt card than pro .. a better card than pro.. im getting anthor 10 thousand points above u ( m8)

Yes .. i understand the difference in your card and mine... however you stated on my setup that my score is low. How could you come to that conclusion when the only card out there that even comes close at 2000 points under mine is a 9700 Pro and 9800 Pro. What would you expect my score to be?

And on that note im really tbh comparing ur score with an athlon based system, as i know of some 1 who hits 8000 with a saphire 9800 Pro on a 3200+ Barten and 1GB of Corsair, hard to believe?

yes maybe, but i sware to you its true. I don't know how much tweaking was involved...or even cheating for that matter lOL, but i saw it with my own eyes.

i thnk there are ways for you to improve your score dramaticly, but that involvles swithing to say a 5900 Ultra, Lol but benchmarking would be the only thin you would benifit from :)

Kewl! thanks... i really dont know much about how they come up with the scores i have just seen alot of posts about them. All i do know is with this card verses my old Nvidia 64mb MX420 (pittyful i know lmfao) i now see things in games i never even knew where there before. Water that acutally looks like i could drown if i fell in and simple things like colors i never seen before.. .. its soo amazing. BTW is that a real game it uses to for the test.. the "wings of fury" .. i havent ever seen it before soo just woundering
