to me this is a nice increase to something I wasn't seeing before with the TI4600 with even a overclock of
core:305 (that's as high as I could go)
memory: 720
I think it had alot to do with the TI4600 being modded by the previous owner.
and my 9600XT is not modded or overclocked

finally got my 6800GT. Oc'ed to 418/1130 it got 12873. :cool:

Thats more than twice and a quarter of what my good card does now....

What in your mind Midknyte is the overall difference that you can see.. speed and higher fraps?? anything else of note??

Are the graphics basicly that much better than a 9800 Pro or FX 5900?? of course they would be somewhat...

Same question as Rabbit..... Is the "game play" that much better then say my system with a 3200 xt & 9800 pro? I would think it should be given your scores are double of what I get.

i can't really tell if the picture quality is that much better, but you can run at a higher res and still have the games playable. I didn't get to test too much since I just got the card yesterday. :p

i have the X800 pro and OCed i can get 11000 out of it, and plan to go further. the thing is that you have to worrys with the good card. you think UT2004, yup 6 x AA and 16 x AF no problems, runs just as smoothly. that is what i like. ive never tryed a 9800 series card but id imagine that it isnt altogether that smooth at those specs.

All this talk of higher resolution..has me baffled( I know what this is by the way).

I mean.., i play everything literally at 1024 X 768 and evrything is very clear and very good resolution. Any sharper of a picture and I am not sure I could tell any real world diffence and maybe only in a small fraction of games.maybe..

The speed issue is what makes more sense to me..overall..and I would imagine that some up and coming futre games and knowing that they are just pushing the envelope as much as they can...you would be able to really see these cards in all their glory...

Also, I would recommend that the users of these cards.have plenty of system ram ,power supply wattage,a high end CPU, and a fast HD ..to be able to see what it is trully meant to display...

i can tell a big difference even between 1024x768 and 1152x864.

Like I said ..previously, i am going to try and play some of my usual in a higher resolution for once to see what my current card does and does not do..which would give me an indication of what this is trully all about.

I do not doubt your own eyes .....maybe I am passive..bujt not so..as I am like most all of you ,in athqat I want the best I can get....but then for me..it gets good enough and I leave well enoguh alone...

ive never actually tryed a game above 1024*768 but i see a very big difference between 800*600 and 1024*765

The difference above 800X600 and the better or higher resolutions is a big jump....the thing with 800X600 is that most anything will run the fastest on this resolution and it looks basicly OK..but anything above that is just a whole lot better overall.

Most games will set the default at 800X600 as thats the happy medium..but with the newest cards out and the way the industry is moving.....this will be a thing of the past....

Another factor to consider is your Monitor. The refresh rate and what it is set to is also a player in the graphics and how they play out on screen.

I set mine to 85MHZ...now and it seems just fine,operates great and games play just fine with that.I would suggest 75MHZ for the best overall...

i thought, when v-xync is turned off the monitor refresh t´rate doesnt have an impact on performance.

75hz is a little low i think, i still see a little flicker on my crt. i need at least 80hz, 100hz or more is optimal (but my monitor already makes 100hz@1600x1200, but in windows i use 1800x1440@80hz, which is the highest recommended setting for my monitor).

What kind of monitor do you have....??

With resolution like that you must have one of the newer cards..heh?

I have a GeForce 4 Ti 4600.

I can only play a few games w/ such high resolutions, i.e. fifa 2004 and the football manager ANSTOSS 3, which is a very old game.

what a nice monitor..I am jealous....

It will..like every other piece of hardware I want be quite some time before i make any upgrades....
I have a very nice high end sytem and the monitor..while only a relatively good 19" CRT type...looks just beautiful enough for me...so I can wait. ( KDS Pureflat )

I used to have a strong desire to get a LCD for obvious reasons of space and thought the picturre would look even bettr..but thart is not the case actually... CRT's have a much better picture resolution overall....but a 21" is real nice...
A fiend down the hall has a Viewsonic 21" and I sure do like Viewsonic monitors alot..so crisp on the picture quality..

I can get a 19" viewsonic for $199.00 now and wish I had it to do all over again..I would get that.:r :x :rolleyes: :cool:

I got my monitpor for 270€, but it was used. you cannot get the monitor any more, but similar sony trinitorn monitors cost all >800€ new.

Here I am talking to a guy from Austria...just amazing....

The temp.here in Portland today..was a record..103 degrees..and my comp. just jumped up about twenty degrees in temps.

strange, its also very hot in austria now. a fe days ago we had over 30°C (30°C=86°F).

some pretty impressive refresh rates. my old graphics card only went to 65 Hz lol

Does anybody here have an idea of hwat the best refresh rates would be for a FX5900..? I know the monitor is the main thing involved in how high you can go....;)

the best refresh rates that all new graphics cards should support should be just the maximum, which doesnt exceed the maximum RAMDAC-clock, which is 400MHz on alle newer consumer graphics cards. So this would be i.e. 148Hz@1600x1200 and (I just found that out by using powerstrip).

Update. I removed the core heatsink, cleaned off the thermal grease and put on some arctic silver. Got the core up to 421 now. I didn't mess with the memory since it had some thermal pads on it. Got the score up to 13009.

You mean you actually took the heatsink off the card and reapplyed paste to it? You got balls.....( or do you mean the CPU?)

I took the heatsink of the GPU core. it's really easy actually. :D Gonna see if DX9.0C does anything to help.

God, it seems like it was just yesterday when I was at the top of the pile with my 3200xp oc'd and my 9800 pro oc'd and a score of over 6600.... Gives new meaning to Moore's law....Poor ol' Bessy, gonna have to retire her to my 6 year old daughter. :(

I don't think it is necessary..but I often thought about putting a better more powerful heatsink on my card..which is a FX5900.

Usually I don't do much overclocking...and just got a great new Nvidia overclockers tool to work with...( it has so many settings for it to adjust..I get real confused )( I have had no issues with this card overall)

The most I have done in the past is up the clock and bus speeds by 15-20 or so....I guess it helps the Fraps some....but there is no real problem with anything I run out there at stock speeds....although that is the only thing that could be improved somewhat..is speed.. esp. in the fast action graphical strategy games..like GC 2 or Generals....( I love those games..awesome)

I am only a little jealous for notr having the 6800 GT Seems like an awesome card..and the benchmarks are the best..Iv'e seen

i feel so stupid buying an X800 pro back in June. i shouldve waited a few month and gotten the 6800GT, the X800 pro is still a great card though.

I just reformatted windoze, i used to get in the 5000 range before the reinstall.

I did no hardware editing whatsoever, all newest drivers are installed, services are optimised, minimal programs running, and disk is defragmented.. what else could i do to improve the score?
For non-3d work this PC is flying along, stuff loads in the blink of an eye, faster than ive ever seen before. It even boots from end of POST to logon screen in about 3/4 seconds.
